Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea is quite an event at The Chesterfield Mayfair - commended at the Afternoon Tea Awards for the second year running. A member of The Tea Guild, a prestigious and unique organisation that represents outlets dedicated to brewing and serving tea to the high standards desired by the United Kingdom Tea Council.

Recognised for our outstanding quality and consistently high standards of tea service we pay suitable respect to its ritual while offering some exciting variations on the original. We take tremendous pleasure in serving a menu complete with homemade cakes, scones and pastries prepared by Tom, our chef pâtissier, in the heart of Mayfair.

Perfect for a fun mid-afternoon treat. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and great value for money with the option to order more of the pieces you liked. The candy station was also a fun element and provided a nice take home treat!

unfortunately we were disappointed with the whole event :(
I only booked this from the photos I found online from the charlie and the chesterfield (so themed around Charlie & the chocolate fty)

when we reached the venue we saw it was the original sweet shop instead and we wanted to leave and go to the mad hatters afternoon tea but it was too far and my daughter was hungry

the vegetarian options were limited - my mum doesn't like cheese and is allergic to egg.
so for £47 she got to eat an avocado sandwich and a cucumber sandwich. the cakes were just a bit too crazy and the only thing she liked was the scone

so for £47 a scone and a couple of sandwiches it was disappointing

for myself, i actually only eat chocolate based desserts, which they didnt have any of (they were all mixed with fudge or peanut butter etc) the only nice thing was a chocolate chip scone but could only eat 1 of those.

the sandwiches were nice for me

my daughters meal was £21 and she just had a ham, cheese and jam sandwich and a couple of cakes which again were too fancy for her to eat as she also only likes chocolate

it was very quiet and not very busy, and it just all felt a little dated for my personal taste.

the best thing was the service from the staff and the teddy and sweets my daughter got

My 7 year old daughter and I took a very good friend to afternoon tea for her birthday! The staff were amazing, which helped my friend feel really special on her birthday. The Sweetshop theme was a fantastic extra treat. Thank you.

Beautiful, food was delicious as was the tea. Everyone was attentive, but at the end of our tea it took a while to get the bill. We were chatting so no big deal, that would be the only negative.

Disgraceful afternoon tea. They offer a “winter wonderland” afternoon tea but run out of their Christmas blend by 3pm.
Sandwiches are tasteless, the tea selection is tiny and taste like burnt paper, the “pastries” are greasy mounts of sugar and cream without texture: the clementine macaron had the stickiness of soft caramel. Scones are underbaked and served cold, we had to ask to get clotted cream and jam. The service is appalling, the music is too loud and it’s impossible to have a conversation at a civilised sound level. Can't recommend it over many other hotels at a comparable price tag.

We had an excellent time during our high tea. Though the tea is designed with children in mind, the adults enjoyed it as well. The staff was extremely attentive and well informed. The kids especially loved the "candy shoppe" style baked goods and the adults enjoyed the champagne and tea. We would highly recommend the experience to anyone of any age!

When we booked we were aiming for the proper afternoon experience that was stated in the site . They had a function so we were seated in a closed stuffy library room . The lady who did our service had such a bad attitude , grumpy and sarcastic the whole time .

We were disappointed with the dessert menu of the high tea. While they were presented beautifully they tasted so artificial and some were sickeningly sweet. I wouldn't come back even for the optical treat. The scones had a ways to go as well as it was more like jam and clotted cream on bread as opposed to scones

Sorry to say but we had really bad service, it was very slow and hard to get even a glass of water. The cakes were stale, really dry cupcake, would guess at at least a couple of days old and the scones were over cooked, they just crumbled to nothing on cutting. Don’t waste your money on this overpriced afternoon tea. Good theme idea but very poorly executed, such a shame.

Good experience and very good service. Special thanks to Loris for his exceptional service - I hadn’t visited the chesterfield for some time and he recognised me which was nice. Friendly staff. Selection of afternoon tea choices were fantastic and some very high quality teas on offer. Food was - mostly fresh unlike some afternoon teas I have been to! Will return!

What can I say but excellent ! We scheduled ahead to celebrate my daughters Sweet 16 and they did not disappoint. Every thing was well organized the staff was very attentive. My daughters birthday tea was everything we imagined and hoped it would be. Fun for the whole family especially my 5 year old. The extra goodies at the end made the afternoon a great success. Thank you to everyone

This was our first time going to London, so I was pretty excited about afternoon tea! However, I was very dissappointed with the services. The restaurant wasn't even that busy and any time I waved our sever over, he looked a bit surprised as if he completely forgot we were there. The best part was when he went on a break and the other server manning the room was new so he looked like he was having a hard time helping all 3 tables that were there. The food was subpar, seeing how some of our sandwiches were as dry as the Sahara desert and no tea or water to wash any of it away. Our son ordered their special winter sandwiches. Well, don't bother seeing as it was plain cheese, plain ham and I cant remember what the other plain sandwhich was. My 10 year old could have made his own sandwhiches look more appealing. The service was quite fantastic though when it came timet o paying our bill. Never seen a machine whipped out so quickly before. All in all, I can't say how much I wou ld not recommend this place enough.

We had a lovely time and a wonderful afternoon tea, however after being told it was fully booked and unable to reserve a table over the phone, I managed to book a table on opentable, and when we arrived it really was not busy! There were lots of empty tables so it was disappointing that I had been told on the phone that there was no availability. However, the afternoon tea and the setting was really lovely.

Not as good as the first time we went there which was a shame as it was the quality of the willy wonka afternoon tea that meant we went back for Christmas one. It was very poor in comparison and the deserts were to chocolate based. Also were as last time we felt we had a lot of space and we felt relaxed this time felt we were squashed on smallest table and service seemed to want to get us out as soon as possible. Real shame as was amazing first time went but would t go back based on last experience

I organised a surprise baby shower afternoon tea for my sister - On arrival, we were given a warm welcome, we were shown to our seats and were given lovely welcome drinks in a bottle. As the afternoon tea went on, we were constantly asked for refills which was great. Overall great experience.
