A16 is a Michelin rated and James Beard Award Winning restaurant bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the South of Italy. Executive Chef Yosuke Machida carefully selects local, organic produce and meats to prepare a daily menu specializing in wood oven-fired Neapolitan pizza, braised meatballs, vibrant salads, pasta and local meats and seafood dishes. Owner Shelley Lindgren works closely with a well-versed, hospitable service team to bring one of the SF Bay Area's celebrated wine and food destinations.

    Excellent food in generous portions. The tripe was particularly good, and the orcyiette with lamb sausage was excellent. Attentive and responsive service. The noise level was just on the edge of being able to have an easy conversation.

    For the better part of two decades, A16 has served up reliably excellent food paired with their outstanding wine list packed with unusual delights to experience. Service is friendly and attentive. The perfect neighborhood restaurant. Bravo!

    Great food here. The pizza is authentic to the Napoli style. Bravo! A great wine list as well. So many fun wines. Whoever put this list together knows their stuff. From the known pricy to the unknown values. I would recommend this establishment to everyone!

    The pizza, pastas and main dishes are all delicious. You can tell that each dish is created with meticulous attention to flavors, textures and presentation. The wine list and knowledge of the wine by the servers is outstanding. the food and wine never disappoint and that is why A16 is my go-to restaurant.

    Our favorite restaurant in San Francisco! Hands down -- always measures up and exceeds. Great anniversary dinner -- delicious food, spot on wine pairings, attentive service from incredible staff. LOVE!!!

    This places has changed. The food was not impressive for the price - the server looked inconvenienced when I asked questions, barely came up to our table, the food was overcooked, over salted, and just plain messy. For a meal that cost well over $100 -- these people need to get themselves in check. Really didn't like our experience and frankly, cannot justify going back when places like Cotogna, Che Fico, and Piccino exist and are a breath of fresh air compared to this.

    I highly do NOT recommend this place. We came excited to try this place after receiving a recommendation. When we arrived, we advised that we were here for a reservation and gave our name - the host did not welcome or speak one word to us... we disregarded this to start. After we were seated, a server never came to our table, but greeted and served others that arrived much after us. We left after 45 minutes of not being greeted at the table. I wish not to think that race was a factor, but they did serve, with the most attention, all the other tables filled with white people and never greeted us. At the 45 minutes of waiting politely, we finally asked for a server and they were not apologetic nor gave intention of wanting to serve us. We left and were disgusted by our experience. This place is 100% racist. After our experience, I read other Yelp reviews and have seen other reviewers that shared in the same experience. Guess what? They were minorities just like us. Do not come here.

    Nothing to write home about. As always, minimum of $100 per person with one glass of vino. That's with a shared appetizer, which was fine, but nothing extraordinary, and a shared pasta, which was ditto. The vino was $22 and nothing great. Server was competent, just couldn't quite understand him. I speak Italiano and still it was hard. Chairs and tables were rocking back and forth. I'd say pass on a return visit. I think the place is nice but not my cuppa tea.

    Most expensive pizza i’ve eaten in my life… price too high definitely!!!! And the pizza was half raw. Good starters but I repeat: PRICE TOO HIGH!

    I love the atmosphere at A16, especially main dining area. I didn’t love the table I was at when we got there and asked to switch to another table and the hostess was so professional and kind, never have I experienced anybody so pleasing in the service industry, especially after Covid. There’s no hard alcohol but have a great selection of wines and sparking wines. Great pizzas! Ok appetizer menu; not great. Delicious Tiramisu! Great service! The only thing they need to level up is after you’ve finished a drink or plate of something, servers need to be more aware to take away the already used dinnerware. Our menus and wine list sat on our table throughout the meal. Not a big deal but our table was getting crowded. Overall, good food and good vibe!

    Always solid. Actually brought a friend that was gluten-free and the gluten-free lamb sausage pasta was unreal. Read salads, and of course, the best pizza on earth. And we all know it’s the best Mediterranean wine list, this side of the globe.

    Excellent trout with corn. Trout was cooked perfectly with crispy skin. Watermelon salad was a treat. Recommend wine in the carafe size - Cost is the same as two glasses but you get more. Don’t forget the olives, They are the best!

    A16 is a consistently excellent experience with consistently excellent food. I prefer to sit outside or in the back area as it's easier to have a conversation. We had a great meal -- shishito peppers, an arugula salad, the arrabbiata pizza (yum & spicy), and an AMAZING eggplant & riccotta-stuffed ravioli. Also couldn't resist the chocolate budino. Great wines too. And the service is friendly and knowledgeable.

    The food is fabulous, service prompt and thoughtful. Save room for dessert. But be prepared for so much noise that you cannot have a conversation with the person sitting next to you, much less someone sitting across the table.

    As usual we enjoyed the good service and the nice ambiance at A16. We like sitting at the chef’s counter in the back of the restaurant so we can watch the cooking and interact with the staff. The pesto pasta with shrimp was good, but I could have done without the cheese on top. The little shrimp were fresh and tasty. We also had the chicken, which was nice and juicy. The peperonata that it sat on was delicious, slightly sweet from the red and yellow peppers. We also ordered a side salad, which was good but tiny. It was really only big enough for one person. My husband enjoyed the Italian wines that the waiter selected for him.

    Took about 10 minutes for someone to come take our order (I actually had to waive a server down). But once we got our drinks and food, the experience was great! Good pizza and pasta. Also love the ambiance!
