We are a 50-seat neighborhood restaurant that serves traditional Korean cuisine. Please understand although we strive to serve food and beverages with distinction we are still a small independent family run restaurant. No smoke and mirrors here. Just food from the heart. Our space is limited and our staff is small. We believe that we have the ability and resources to make all of our guests happy while dining in our "home" (as we see it). It can get loud in here when we are full but we believe this adds to the convivial atmosphere we provide. We are always happy here and this shows in the spirit of our restaurant. We look forward to serving you with all of our hearts and a smile!

Our sister restaurant, Wherewithall, is right down the street so feel free to walk over for a pre-dinner snack or a post-dinner drink!

I was so excited when Parachute re-opened. While the ambiance and service were great, I was disappointed with the food. It wasn't bad, but nothing memorable and certainly not worth the hefty price tag.

I found the food and service to be quite good at Parachute but it wasn't exactly what I expected. The menu is actually quite limited and there were many traditional Korean foods that weren't included. I tried for several days to reach the restaurant by phone to try to discuss changing the reservation but they simply didn't answer the phone and didn't respond to my email. I expected a large table with room for several dishes but the table was way to small to make it easy to have several dishes. Finding parking was difficult and the room was too noisy for pleasant conversation, The food was too expensive and, while very good, didn't justify the cost. I was appalled that they added a 20% gratuity automatically and also suggested adding a further tip. Overall, the visit was a worthwhile venture but I won't return and I think there are other Korean restaurants in the city that are better. I think the other reviews were so positive that they made me want to visit but I couldn't give Parachute the glowing review that others. did.

My wife and I had obviously heard many fantastic things (including their multiple prestigious accolades), and after dining at the sister concept, Wherewithall, we decided to book a rezo at Parachute. It is a fairly small, cozy space, and we had to book weeks out to secure a spot. I loved the vintage audiophile aesthetic - complete with records, CDs, and old receivers and speakers. Small but perfectly executed menu with quite reasonable prices for the quality. We tried the seafood pancake, dry aged bulgogi beef, and whole grilled yellow corvina. Everything was absolutely fantastic including all the accoutrements (house made kimchi, pickles, eggplant, etc.). Cocktails, soju, wine, and beer were all new and exciting. And last but not least, our server was friendly, timely, knowledgeable, made great suggestions, and took care of us with patience. An absolute must try restaurant in Chicago!

I was very disappointed and completely underwhelmed by the food here. Also, there's a 20% service charge for non-wait staff, insurance and inflation. I wish this was just incorporated in to the price of the food.

The service was excellent but that’s where the excellence stops. The pork belly and collar were bland, it had a steamed appearance to it. Everything was salty yet still seemed bland and under seasoned. I was so looking forward to this meal. I had so many people tell me it’s going to be a spectacular experience. I was very disappointed and that seems to be the trend lately as I read the reviews. I really hate to give bad reviews but for an almost $300 dinner it was A disappoint.

The food, service and ambience were all top-notch, just not $300 a couple top-notch. And that's with 3 glasses of wine, total alc. It feels like a $150-$200 a couple meal. I dine in such restaurants 2-3 times a week. So in my judgment, way overpriced.

The makeover of what was once an exciting and inventive restaurant well worth a detour deep into territory otherwise sparse in restaurants, has been a bad mistake. It is now a reasonable, run of the mill but very over priced Korean restaurant, with absurdly small plates for sharing apart from a gigantic desert. Such a disappointment. Such pretentions for OK food. Cross off list.

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, we hadn’t gone in a while because of the pandemic, and we were disappointed on a recent visit. Barely 8 items on the menu, somewhat overpriced and most of the dishes were quite average. I had to seafood pancake which was average at best. The tempura was quite good which a couple of members of our party had, but the mackerel was again average at best. The service was good and they did do their best to try to make accommodations for some people in our party with dietary restrictions which I appreciate. however, at $80 per person neither the quality of the cocktails nor the food lived up to expectations.

We wanted the dining experience to be similarly fantastic to what we’d experienced before Covid, but unfortunately it just wasn’t. We paid $350 for 2 (including the 20% mandatory service charge) and for that price you expect more. There were no memorable mouthfuls and the service was just ok. Drinks arrived after appetizers. The sashimi was ok but I didn’t really see how this worked on the menu. The tartare was frozen - we were told this - but I couldn’t tell you what that added to the dish. For us, it suppressed the flavors rather than enhance them. The seafood pancake was stodgy. The mackerel was perfectly cooked but a little on the salty side and the bulgogi was good. The rice in the clay pot was a nice touch. The wine pours for $15 were small. Again, we wanted this experience to another great one at Parachute but it wasn’t. Too much money for what it was. On the way home, we ended up talking about the great dishes we had before the menu changed rather than any of the dishes that night. Sorry….

Though the food was very good, the pacing of the meal was not, especially when you are spending $100 per person. The first thing to know is that each item ordered is meant to be shared, per our server. She told us the items would be paced in how they were served, so we could enjoy each item. This worked for our appetizers, but then our three entrees were brought to the table at the same time. This really distracted us from properly enjoying each one. We attempted to bring this to her attention, with no luck. With an automatic 20% tip, there is no way to make any issues, like this, known to the restaurant. It’s almost like the restaurant doesn’t trust us to tip appropriately. The pacing has bothered us more and more as we think about it. We were at the restaurant last night.

We have eaten at Parachute several times before they changed their menu and loved everything about the experience. We were excited to return to the restaurant after they reopened and sadly, we did not enjoy the food nearly as much as we had enjoyed our prior experiences with their old menu. We both left the dinner underwhelmed. Given how much we enjoyed our prior experiences at Parachute, we would happily return, but not until they change their menu options.

We had a great experience at Parachute, Chef Kim’s restaurants never disappoint! We were on a date night. We were warmly greeted by the host and seated immediately. It was our first time and our server explained the menu. We had the tempura, seafood pancake, pork bossam and ribs. All of the dishes were full of flavor. It was messy eating the ribs and we would have ordered something else. In terms of the gratuity fee, I’m happy to support a restaurant who values their employees. Chef Kim is clear about her stance in supporting her team and larger community so happy to support.

I had been looking forward to eating at Parachute for a long time. Overall, I thought is was good, not amazing like I was told by multiple people. Maybe it was over-hyped and I expected too much? When I walked in, I was greeted very warmly by the host. I was seated at a nice table by the front windows, even though the rest of my party was not there yet, which I always appreciate. The menu is very small. There were 4 of us and we ordered almost every dish available. We started with the raw fish, served with 2 types of seaweed wrappers. The fish was very fresh and the sauces served with it were excellent. Next we enjoyed the vegetable tempura. I loved the light batter and the variety of vegetables (sugar snap peas, mushrooms, shishito peppers, lotus root, sweet potato) served on a bed of very thin, crunchy potato strings. Next we shared the seafood pancake. We all really loved this dish. It was flavorful and interesting. Even though I know that pork belly and pork collar will be fatty, the pork bossam was too fatty for me, but my dinner mates enjoyed it, loving the 3 different wraps it comes with. The braised back ribs were flavorful and the sauce was delicious poured over the rice. The grilled whole corvina was simply prepared, yet flavorful, just be cautious of the bones. Overall, the experience was very nice, the food was different, complex, flavorful and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow and too much time passed between courses. The portion sizes are not large, but sufficient and sharing is the way to go. A 20% gratuity is automatically added to the check, which is fine with me, but I do not need to spend $95/person for a Tuesday night dinner. I will go back when the menu changes and it's a special occasion.

I lived in this neighborhood growing up and it has changed a lot for the better. We were able to find parking within a block from the restaurant without a problem. Menu was very creative, and included one of my favorites which is a good sushi appetizer. We followed our server's suggestion to share plates, and also added 2 of the seafood pancake. Make a great starter, but I think it could have had more calamari in it. Plenty of shrimp pieces. We also tried the grilled mackerel, which is sharable for 2 but not for 3, at least for an entree. We wanted to try the goat stew but it wasn't on the menu that week. Whatever you try, add the desert. Frozen milkshake delight.

We are so thrilled that Parachute is back— and better than ever. Whenever I tell people about Parachute I tell them,”not only is the food absolutely delicious, but there is nowhere else in the city like it. You are eating food that is distinctly Parachute; it’s exciting.” That was our experience last night. Parachute was my gateway into Korean food (beyond Korean BBQ and Bibimpap), but last night felt like Korean 2.0 for me. I can’t think of a better compliment a restaurant could receive than having diners tell them that they left with a deeper appreciation of the cuisine—and that’s how we feel about our meal. The service was also great. We are so excited to go back. I am so glad that I set an alert in my phone to check Instagram daily at the end of May for the announcement that reservations had opened up.

We loved parachute. The ambiance was amazing and the service was even better! Great food and great drinks as well. We tried the ribs, seafood pancake, tempura veggies, and the mackerel. The pancake was amazing and light and came with a sauce that I wanted to dip everything in. The tempura veggies were fun seasonal flavors with a great soy sauce. The ribs were to die for - super tender and another amazing broth. The only thing I would recommend skipping is the mackerel as it lacks the amazing flavor and substance that all the other dishes have. Otherwise - this is a can’t miss spot!
