Korean
We are a 40-seat neighborhood restaurant that serves globally inspired cuisine, that we like to call Korean American. Please understand although we strive to serve food and drink with distinction we are still a small independent family run restaurant. No smoke and mirrors here. Just food from the heart. Our space is limited and our staff is small. We believe that we have the ability and resources to make all of our guests happy while dining in our "home" (as we see it). It can get loud in here when we are full but we believe this adds to the convivial atmosphere we provide. We are always happy here and this shows in the spirit of our restaurant. We look forward to serving you with all of our hearts and a smile!

Never disappoints! This is my fifth visit to Parachute, and I love that every time I go I get a different menu and experience. The wait staff is wonderful and extremely knowledgeable, and the food is absolutely delicious.

We were impressed by the beautiful and appetizing presentation of each dish we have ordered at times with playful use of color and textures. The portions were ample and pleasing. The flavors were delightfu. An excellent staff adviced us and the suggestions were helpful.
I wish they would use acoustical tiles to reduce the noise level. But the energy of the place was vibrant and joyful.

We went to Parachute for our anniversary and had a lovely evening. The food is very creative and delicious. We especially enjoyed the pickles, the tempura japchae, and--OMG--the sable. There was also a beautiful--simple but delicious--salad. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was vibrant. The restaurant is a great destination for a special occasion.

Very unique and interesting dishes. They didn't always work for me, but some of them were absolutely amazing (the baked lobster salad dish was to die for). Also, the homemade ginger beer is wonderful and I hope they start making mules with it a regular feature on their cocktail list. Don't miss the tartare, either. Service was some of the best I've ever experienced and the only negative would be that some of the filler dishes are a little boring/simple appearing but they have good flavor. A great celebration date night for us.

This restaurant deserves a 10 (out of 5!). Everything was phenomenal-from the service, to the food to the energy level. Our server was incredible-personable The food was insanely good-complex but not crazy; The ambience was perfectly energetic and casual. It is rare to be able to eat this level of gourmet food in such a friendly and unpretentious environment. I can't wait for the opening of their new restaurant! Congrats on the James Beard award!

Our second visit to Parachute and just as excellent as our first. Claire is an outstanding server - great recommendations and very personable. They provided a menu for our vegetarian friend that high-lighted their veg options. The dishes are shareable, I'm not going to go through every dish we had, but everyone was extremely pleased with everything we ordered. Highly recommended.

While the food was fine/good and service great, the tables are packed so close together that our dinner and conversation was interrupted several times throughout the evening so we could move our table over to allow the guests at the next table get in/out of their table. Also, the restaurant choose to seat a clearly drunken group of loud guests who created such a distraction that almost every table stopped eating and gawked in irritation.

Overall, food was average for a restaurant of this caliber, service was above average, and the environment was well below average.

My friend and I dined here years ago when it first opened, and weren’t wowed at all. Seeing that Kimberly and Johnny won James Beard, we thought that perhaps we should give it another chance. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items. I’m sorry to say, we are still now wowed. None of the dishes really hit it out of the park, except perhaps the Îles flottantes (floating islands dessert). Tonight, they had orange or mandarin infused version, not jasmine as described on the menu. We didn’t mind because it was the best dish of the night. We had the prix fixe menu, which comes with 7 savory items and a dessert. We requested that one of the items be the grilled mackerel. I don’t know if it was originally part of the 7 items or if our server put in a word for it, but that was the best savory item. If I have to dine here again, I’d reorder the bing bread, the mackerel, and definitely the Îles flottantes.

Parachute is our favorite Chicago restaurant--and that's saying alot. We've been here at least 4 times and every experience exceeds our expectations. Love sitting at the chef's table and watching the behind the scenes activity. The staff is personable and knowledgeable and remembers our names and preferences each time we come. Every item on the menu is exceptionable and the service is some of the best we've received in the city!

Excellent food and service. Clare (she had great recommendations) was our primary server, but Parachute uses a team approach and we were well taken car of by the entire staff. A number of interesting wine selections and we were very pleased with the Grenache La Roche BTL. Our order (party of two) consisted of the Gem Lettuce, Tuna Banh XEO, the Tempura, Ddukobbi, and Mackeral. All shareable plates and was more than sufficient for us. We finished off with the Tiramisu. The Mackeral was excellent. It was hard for us to decide which dish we liked the best. Highly recommend this restaurant. Seating is primarily along a long table - communal style. Very vibrant restaurant in the Avondale neighborhood and great staff!

I was really excited to go to this restaurant based on all the reviews I had read! We had to increase our party to 6 people last minute and were made to do the tasting menu. As you might guess, this was a lot of food, so it provided a lot of opportunities to get the food right. I'm sad to report that the food wasn't just underwhelming but it was BAD. Out of the 6 people in my party, not one of them liked what they were served. We were very disappointed.

This restaurant was hyped by media and friends. Food varied from exceptional to just okay. We had a 9pm reservation and some couple thought it was cool to have their 2 year old kid along at that time. The kid was rubbing his eyes and screaming out loud. As physically cute as his parents thought he was, it was hard to see anything but bad parenting from my view point. Anyway, it’s hard for any restaurant to combat that. Food was interesting enough that I’d like to go back and try to enjoy myself.

While we were very excited to try out Parachute, we were not as impressed as we had anticipated. The food was very creative, however we felt some of the dishes lacked flavour and zest. The smoked yuba was a very eye appealing dish, however it was quite tasteless. Compared to other restaurants we visited during our time in Chicago, the cost of this place was a lot more than we felt it worth. Our service was sub par, always being left with an empty glass at the table and to seek out our server for another drink and to give us clean plates. Perhaps the Michelin star rating has given this restaurant more hype than the cost is worth. Apart from the food and service, the atmosphere and ambiance was nice.

We had high expectations after the James Beard awards were announced. But my husband and I both felt the food was over salted, with small portions at very high prices, and at communal tables. The broccoli salad was good, but $17 for a small salad? The special fish stew was appetizer sized but priced like an expensive entree. In this lower priced real estate area, it seems the prices should be more modest. Wine list by the glass was lacking in variety and inventiveness. Service was attentive if slow. We wanted to love this place, but probably won’t go back.

Because of the noise level, I hadn't been back to Parachute for a while. However, we were seated at the bar next to each other which worked well for a couple to talk, and to converse with the person taking our order across the counter. At the beginning the music was almost imperceptible but cranked up toward the end of the meal. In my experience it's best to go early (and possibly late) in order to have a conversation, particularly for a group. While I generally dislike eating at a counter, this one was quite comfortable, with a purse hook provided and stool at an appropriate height (could step down to the floor without having to jump as I often must do from high bar stools). If for no other reason, go for the bing bread!
