What Insiders Are Saying
Odys and Penelope in Mid-Wilshire is upscale American comfort food at its finest. And also the best smelling restaurant in LA.
Consistently great service and food. One of my favorites.
We had a lovely meal and enjoyed ourselves. It’s too bad the people that don’t get to sit in the banquettes have the most uncomfortable chairs ever. Cushions go a long way for dining comfort. Would like to see more vegan options.
My fav! So chic and delicious and hip! 👌🏻Servers are so accommodating and attentive and love the vibes.
Food and service great? We were a large party and the food came out with excellent timing.
The atmosphere was fun as was the service. The food is VERY overworked. A lot of oil, butter, etc. The snow pod caesar salad was literally swimming in something that was supposed to be dressing but overwhelmed the small snow peas (which you could barely see). It could have been billed as "dressing with a few teeny vegetables." The fish was well-cooked but overwhelmed in some type of oily sauce. This is quite different from the way its terrific breakfast/lunch restaurant, Sycamore Kitchen, prepares food. I don't get it.
We waited 20 mins. To put in a drink order. Overall service was slow. And an 18% gratuity is included.
Absolutely loved this place.
Recommended to me by a friend who is an LA local - this place has the same great food and ambiance of their sister restaurant a few doors down.
Music - fantastic vibes all night long.
Food - must have is the parpadelle pasta, beet salad, brussel sprout fried rice with egg.
The sharing menu for 2 is a value. Amazing food.. great price tag.
Gratuity is added already to your bill - its convenient and easy.
Everything on the menu is super delicious. Service excellent.
The food was excellent. We chose the Sunday Supper. Options were interesting and varied. A very nice value for LA. Wines by the glass selection was decent. The big downside was the noise level. Why do too many LA restaurants think they need to crank up the volume on music that’s inappropriate for a nice dining experience. I want to talk to my dinner companion, not shout and be hoarse by the time I Ieave. Music’s great, but when it’s ambient, without vocals, and in the background. With the lack of acoustics and a cavernous space, the noise was excruciating. Add to that the loud talking of American diners. When I travel to other countries i can enjoy a nice meal without being hoarse and ringing in my ears, unless there is a table or two of loud Americans nearby.
My son and I went for Sunday Dinner. SO COOL. Great atmosphere and food .
Very original and interesting menu served in a cool setting.
Fantastic food and good service. Unique space with lots of cool. atmosphere.
It enough wait staff really but the food is top-notch
Delicious food. Very nice and attentive wait staff
Love this restaurant ! Everything is delicious and their veggies/ sides change based on seasonal ingredients. Really nice space and great service.
A very good date spot if one of you is a vegetarian and the other isn’t
Delightful restaurant w great food. I had the broccoli and beet salad and the incredible slow cooked and huge barbecue rib.
The service was great and helpful and thankfully not rushed even on a crowded Saturday night.
Ask for a table in the back, where we were happily seated and the noise level is less challenging.
Looking for an absolute winning place to go for a Saturday night? This is it. Great drinks, wonderful food. Home cooking on a night out.
Truly a special place. Some of the most flavorful food I have had in LA! Desserts to die for. Great atmosphere. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The noise level was just too high. Food was ok. Probably the best item was the burger.
This was meant to be a lovely date night and instead turned into a starving meal with a bad attitude waiter who was more concerned about getting the food to the famous person next to us. I have never had to wait 1 whole hour between ordering my food and it arriving at my table...especially when the starter is RAW fish and fried mushrooms and yet that's what happened. 1 whole hour waiting while the two tables next to us who had ordered at EXACTLY the same time got their appetizers AND main courses before we were told ours was "coming shortly". No apology. No "let us take that off the bill", just "it's coming". When it did come and the waiter asked us how it was, my boyfriend was just taking his first bite and said "give we a second and I'll let you know but the appetizers were very good". It didn't matter though as the waiter had left before my boyfriend even had a chance to compliment the appetizers. I've been here before the and the service was good. I'm not sure what happened this Friday night but we won't ever be coming back and I definitely won't be recommending this as a date night restaurant. Customer Service matters. I don't care how good the fried mushrooms are, if the services is terrible and I'm paying over $100 for dinner, then you can keep your mushrooms and ruin someone else date night.
Odys and Penelope is always a great option. My boyfriend and I love their pork belly bolognese, maple rosemary pork ribs, and the creamy crab on the grilled focaccia. The restaurant its self has a cool, mellow vibe that is very inviting and all the waiters were very friendly as well. We came around 6pm on a Thursday night so there weren’t a lot of people because they just opened for dinner. I’ve also been when it’s busy but either way the atmosphere is welcoming and we really enjoyed ourself!
Great food, but small portions and way too expensive.
Everything was terrific - Colin is a fantastic, knowledgeable server.
Yummy food, very nice atmosphere but a bit pricey
The service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious! However, the portions for the main dishes and some of the sides were much smaller than expected (especially for the price), so be prepared for that. If those portions are the same size for lunch, it might be better to eat there then. The drinks were standard LA prices, and perhaps just a little smaller as well.
I'd definitely go back though!
Fun night out for a nice meal with a friend or group.
Burger was super salty and not even good. Cheese puffs tasted raw on the inside. Will not go back or recommend.
Our second time at Odys and Penelope and it was fantastic.
Delicious food. Sat near wood fire oven, was a bit toasty, but ambiance, drinks and experience was great. Would go back. The cheese puffs are great!
The smell of the wood fired grill greats you while still approaching the front door. The jumping flames from the open kitchen immediately grab your attention even before the attentive staff has time to say, "Welcome." And, if you still aren't convinced - just close your eyes and breathe. Listen to the fire pop in the kitchen, listen to your fellow guests thoroughly enjoying themselves. Then, take another deep breath and allow the deliciousness created by nothing but the air around you tease you for what's in store. Great cocktails - complimentary wine selections and a diverse menu that will satisfy everyone in your group. This was our third time dining at Odys and Penelope's (first time entertaining clients) and although it is a bit of a drive, we will be back.
Great food, great vibe, service was above average. Space had sort of an cold, industrial feel, which im not a big fan of but other people may like, and the menu options were a little limited but other than that, no complaints.
A fun Mother-Daughter date. The menu is interesting and the service and food quality are excellent. We really liked the atmosphere and energy of the place. The crab focaccia appetizer and skirt steak were amazing! Definitely will be back.
Great service and amazing food! Just make sure you’re seated in the main dining area—not the side annex.
Definitely going back
The restaurant is beautiful. I think that my wife and I made mistakes in what we ordered as entrees. Although the food was very good, I think we would have been better off ordering other entrees. That being said the appetizer (the cheese puffs) the vegetable side dish (cauliflower) and the dessert Chocolate Rye pie with Mint Ice Cream were all absolutely top notch. I have no problem recommending it to others and will try it again and order different entrees.
Great week night dinner spot! I was able to make a reservation day of. Excellent food, attentive staff. It's nice, but also relaxed. I took my mom here, but it would also be a great spot for a date or a business dinner.
Great place for dining with friends - neighborhood find
Our service was incredible, thanks to Peter. The food is excellent and priced fairly. We plan to return as soon as possible.
Loved the vibe in here, didn't get overly loud like a lot of places nearby. I thought the prices were reasonable, the cocktails were great, and the food was cooked perfect. I also liked that our table wasn't right on top of the tables next to us. Made you feel like you could talk at a normal volume.
From start to finish this place rules. Food and Service are spectacular. I was only disappointed because they had just run out of the short rib but nonetheless my second choice was available and equally as spectacular. I have driven by this place for years now but had yet to visit and now I am so glad I did!!!!! Eat here!!! Yum!
Went for my wife's birthday. It's a great place with friends. Get a lot of dishes and share. The ribs are amazing - melt in your mouth. What am I saying, everything is good. Staff is attentive but not in your face.
