I enjoyed the meal. All the difference dishes were excellent and interesting . We were seated upstairs which was pleasant but a bit cold so we all had to wear or cover ourselves with our over coats. Our waitress was sweet professional and eager to be helpful however not willing to address possibility of turning down the AC.
Several people were involved in serving the dishes and somehow if we asked the servers for something like some lemon the answer was yes of course but it would not materialize until we had to ask our waitress directly again so that happened a couple times also the severs didn’t want to remove the empty dishes perhaps they thought it wasn’t their job. Overall the service can be better , more coordinated and focused.
Overall experience was very pleasant and we will definitely go back again and ask to sit away from the AC.
This was a very good experience. Service was quite attentive and efficient. Tasting Menu last almost 4 hours. Really enjoyed the experience.
Mourad’s food was wonderful, as always.
We sat upstairs at a table overlooking the efficient and stunning kitchen, a rare added treat.
The service was outstanding, just the right amount of attention and done so discreetly and warmly.
Want yo try everything on the menu.
Wonderful ambience and outstanding service (very knowledgeable and attentive staff without being overbearing) but I expect my $49 main plate (lamb) to be more than lukewarm and to be given something sharper than a butter knife to cut it.
Also, it’s relatively uncommon for a restaurant in San Francisco to have no gluten-free dessert options except for vegan ice cream. (Minor point for most; My dinner guest has celiac)
I definitely recommend going to Mourad with a group of 4 and getting one of the family style entrees. We’ve gone several times and gotten the short ribs and have never been disappointed - they give you 4-5 sides to go with it which actually makes it a pretty good value for a Michelin star restaurant with how much food you get (and everything is delicious!)
A little noisy downstairs but moved upstairs which was great for talking. The service was great, maximally attentive but not intrusive. We had a family style meal which was plenty of food
Service a little slow as we were short on time. However the food was very good and the wait staff very nice
Food was amazing but the service was bad.
The food , the serving and the atmosphere were outstanding! I will always eat in this place when I am in SF
I love everything about this restaurant...the food, the service, the atmosphere...all of it. Spectacular!
For my second time, with a different friend, it was such a fantastic experience that I can't wait for another occasion to go back.
Way overpriced for what you get, food was trying way to hard. Presentation was favored over flavor. Service was wonderful, but if the food is terrible who cares.
Had the snapper which was amazing. Fish was deboned for easy eating.
nice restaurant! great food! Excellent service!
A special place, Mourad consistently delivers excellent food paired with great service.
The food and wine were outstanding, and the chef accommodated my wife's food allergies without taking away from what the dish was meant to be. Additionally, we had an amazing table in the backroom that looked down on the kitchen. A really special New Years
I’ve been scratching my head, trying to come up with the best way to communicate our experience. We were a party of 6. None of us had dined here previously. It was New Years Eve.
The good: The food, a $195.00 per person tasting menu, was tasty. The portions were minimal. All of were still hungry after the meal. One individual next day commented “did I just pay $500.00 per person for cocktails, wine and foam?”
The not so good: Zero ambience. The Special Event Decor consisted of an arch of helium balloons. It was bright like a cafeteria. It was loud. It just felt cold and without any effort to create any vibe. They did a good job pouring wines and serving drinks fast and furious. We drank a ton and, to their advantage, spent a ton.
In the end, none of the 6 of us felt the experience was worth the cost. We all grabbed Falafel from a dive on the way to our final destination to watch the fireworks over the bay.
New Year’s Eve
THE BEST chicken, maybe even food, I've ever had in my life!!!
Service was ok. We have the tasting menu. Although it’s called tasting menu, I’d expect to be at least satisfying in terms of amount of food. Food were TOO TOO salty. I’m Asian so I’m used to eating salty food. But food was just too salty for enjoyment. When we complained to our server, he offered to redo the food but we figure it would taste the same as other dishes, salty. Tea was an item off the tasting menu. There wasn’t anything special about it. Not sure why it is part of tasting menu. We felt that was something we could’ve done in a few seconds. Hot tea with mint leaves. Nothing special. For the price we paid for, this dining experience is a huge disappointment.
Most importantly, the food was absolutely fantastic. We had the eggplant appetizer to start and together with the zataar flatbread it was divine. We were told the short ribs were slow-cooked for 72 hours and it really showed. They were the most tender short ribs I’ve ever had; they literally melt in your mouth. As for the sides, I personally loved the potatoes and the beans (try them!) but the couscous and kale were equally loved by others in the party. As for desserts, I would highly recommend the honey + almond dessert! It was really unique and hit all the right notes.
Mourad well deserves its place on The Chronicle's 100 best restaurants. We went for our anniversary dinner and were delighted. After a change in plans we arrived over an hour before our reservation and were seated within a 10 minutes. Our menus arrived with a Happy Anniversary message. Every server and waiter were knowledgeable, skilled, and attentive. We had the duck appetizer and were glad to share it. For mains we had the crispy skin branzino and the beef cheeks. Each were fabulous. The wines are great and our server was excellent in recommending the wines.
The restaurant originally marked me as a no-show, which is unfortunate.
I’ve been to Mourad many times, and its got a fond spot in my heart. Food is great, service is excellent but not over the top. I feel like value has declined a bit — they’re definitely pushing (paid) bread re-fills more aggressively than in the past. I appreciate the addition of non-alcoholic cocktails (seen them my last few visits, not sure when the program started) for business lunches. Keeping it as a go-to.
We had a dinner for four, including two of us with an anniversary. We received an extra treat because of the anniversary, including a personalized menu. Food and service was fantastic - wonderful staff, food was superb, and served in portions that were substantial but not overwhelming. Lots of great sauces and condiments, all to be applied as each person saw fit. We had a reservation, and unlike many places, were taken directly to our table. Extremely knowledgable sommelier. Everything was first-rate, and I can't wait to go back.
The server was a bit pushy when we order our main course. She explained beforehand, and we understood. Still even though we just wanted one dish she was pushy and made us feel stupid for not ordering two, which we did, and had to over eat not to leave left overs.
We went back to Mourad this week to see if it could possibly be as good as we had remembered. It is.
This restaurant is overrated.
The food is nothing much. It is not enough to twist some dishes to be outstanding.
Prices are too much for the food, it might be paying to be among the “high end” crowd though.
I don’t know if it is the standard in SF but not a single person in the kitchen had anything on their heads, so a hair in a dish should be expected ( personally i had none in my food)
Awesome food, very good customer service
Wonderful food and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and cooking process!!
Overpriced and overhyped. There are better restaurants in the city. I wouldn’t return.
Food was excellent. A treat as every dish was worthy of the experience.
Service woefully lacked. Upon being seated we ordered a bottle of a favorite 1991 white wine. We also placed our dinner order as well.
Dinner entrees arrived and now thirty minutes into the meal our bottle of wine still had not arrived.
We explained to our waitress that half our meal had been eaten but we still had not received our wine and really wanted to enjoy it with our dinner. She blamed the sommelier and when we asked the sommelier, he blamed the waitress.
Apologies happened, but nothing was offered to compensate for the event that really put a damper on the dining event.
We tipped accordingly and told the manager about our experience. Again an apology, and he thanked us for the feedback and agreed further training was appropriate for the staff.
Again nothing offered, no questions of where we were seated etc. to determine which staff members could benefit from this lack of acceptable experience to its patrons.
Needless to say, we will not recommended this place until there is better service to match the reputation and price asked here. All variables need to align to give this place any better rating than this.
We have been to Mourad several times prior to this Christmas Eve visit with family. Have to say we were disappointed this time. Most of the dished were excellent, w/ the exception of just a couple that seemed to lack salt, flavor, or meat that was cooked beyond our liking. (We were not asked how we wanted the meat cooked, but we would have said med-rare rather than the well done that we received.)
Cocktails were AMAZING. The 2 desserts we ordered were also outstanding.
The area that was most dissapointing was the service as it was definitely not what it was in all of our past visits. We ordered BOTH the chicken and the lamb La'acha family-style meals. EACH La'acha dish comes with a round of sides, as it states on the menu. When our chicken and lamb arrived, we were only presented with one round of sides for the four of us, rather than two, which is what we paid for and should have received.
In the past, Mourad used to offer free seconds on the sides. But, as stated above, we should have been given two sets to begin with. So we asked for second round of sides and were told they don't do the free sides anymore. We felt scoled and chided for asking as she took strict inventory of ONLY the sides that had NOTHING left in the small bowls. One side had one spoonful remaining and she would not count that one for a refill. It was Christmas Eve and this truly felt like a tense moment, which should not be the case at all.
We reminded our server that we ordered TWO La'achas and were not asking for a free second round, only what we paid for. And just FYI, these dishes are not cheap. The chicken is $75 and the lamb is $155. This as in addition to 3 sides, 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and two desserts that we ordered. Our server heard what we said about ordering two La'achas but still proceeded to tell us that she would do what she could to "sneak" the extra sides to us. They were given to us in the end but it felt like a very unnecessary fight for something so simple.
Wonderful waitstaff. Highly professional and knowledgeable. Beautiful decor and ambiance. The food was mostly excellent but just not worth a $500 dinner bill for two people
Our group had a gluten free diner. They did a fantastic job accommodating the request with the tasting menu.
Had a wonderful meal at Mourad for holiday date night! We decided to do the tasting menu. The foie grad crusted in sesame seeds was one of the stars. The sorbet and chocolate dessert were also amazing. Service was smooth and the pacing of the meal was great. Loved loved loved the decor and ambiance of the restaurant Would highly recommend for date night or special occasions. A lovely evening!
Visiting Mourad was incredible, I don't think I've ever experienced so much flavor at once. Can't wait to come back. Beautiful food to share with loved ones.
Very impressed with the depth of flavors and creative cuisine. The setting was stunning and service was very attentive without being stuffy. I’ll be back!
What a wonderful experience! My favorite part about dining out is being surprised by new flavors and Mourad didn’t disappoint. We b
