Established back in the 1980s the Montaz brand has gone from strength to delicious strength with branches of the mini-chain gaining favour in Bourne, Ely, St Ives and Brampton over the years. The baby of the group, this Newmarket branch of Montaz follows the old formula of sleek, contemporary setting, beautiful Indian and Bangladeshi food and impeccable service. The classy surroundings combine the intimacy of a restaurant with the vibrant atmosphere of a bar, the result being a fashionable hangout that appeals to all ages, one in which visitors might choose to linger over drinks after a meal rather than rushing for the nearest pub. Montaz’s menu is entirely authentic to the recipes of northern India and the Punjab, providing delicate spicing, robust flavours and both well loved and unusual dishes alike. For pocket-friendly dining, Montaz offers regular special theme evenings.

we booked a table for 4 after a successful day at the races, and the meal did not disappoint. Lovely food and great service to end a perfect race day on a high. thanks for making this short break in Newmarket a special experience. We will be back!

We had dinner with friends in Newmarket. Always not sure about Indian outside of London we were persuaded to try Montaz. Starters were bland but!... The meal was terrific , friendly waiters and great value. TRY IT!

We've now eaten here twice and both times the food and service has been excellent. The menu has different options from regular Indian restaurants and the food is full of flavour, the portions are generous. The service is spot on, the staff are polite and cheerful. The ambiance is perfect and relaxed, helped by the fact the restaurant is not too big. Thoroughly recommended.

Better than your average Indian Restaurant. More authentic dishes as well as tried and tested known ones. The spices very subtly used. Service good and friendly. Nothing too much trouble.

We went with friends after racing having been recommended this restaurant by the local taxi driver. The food was fantastic - some classic Indian dishes, but with some unusual modern twists - quail and venison being a couple of examples. The quality of the food was wonderful, and the food itself seemed to have a lot less ghee than I usually find in Indian food, without losing any flavour whatsoever. The service was also great - friendly, very attentive, but not pushy or pompous. 2 of us were drinking wine and the other 2, beer; and we found the entire meal to be great value for money. Would definitely recommend, and if we lived locally, we would visit often.

I have eaten at many Indian retuarants over the years including some michelin starred ones in London and other capitals of the world. I have to say, this one ranks in my top 2!

Very pleasant meal, unhurried but attentive staff. The starter for sharing was excellent, then I had sea bass (mahi machli) which was a little salty. We sat near the door so there was some take away traffic, but still a very nice evening. Thank you Montaz.
