This was a surprise both because it’s in a hotel and its near the theater district. Loved the Greek salad and fresh fish. Great roomy tables and quiet atmosphere.
Great food, nice ambience, and a convenient location. Only thing missing is great service... we had a table of 7 and waiters were hard to come by when we needed something, even with the restaurant only 3/4 full on a Thurs night.
Molyvos is consistently good. Food, service, noise level, cocktails, house wines all a great value.
Very nice food
This restaurant is great value. We went for lunch (they have prix-fixe for about $35). There were many gluten-free items...and lunch was served in less than an hour. I would recommend this restaurant heartily.
Great food great waitress , great night
My theatre-going friend had not been to Molyvos. She was so enchanted, we're planning a return visit this coming Friday night (have yet another Manhattan Theatre Club ticket).
We both flipped over M's version of a traditional Green salad! And next week we may both order the
chicken, it was that good!
The menu is an excellent list of a variety of Greek food to please everyone.
My wife and I went for our anniversary. First time to Molyvos. I was very happy. Place was very nice. Food was great. Service was wonderful. Servers and staff wished us a Happy Anniversary. Very extensive list of Greek wines. They had a wine that we had drank in Greece last year. It was very good. My only very minor disappointment was that they did not have more of a selection of Metaxa Greek brandy. Our server let me taste another type of brandy as was very helpful. Dessert was delicious! Great dinner all around.
We had a group of four and the purpose of the meal was a mix of business and pleasure. The service was excellent as was food. The noise level was low to moderate so our group was able to enjoy the conversation.
We had a quick light dinner pre concert with yummy seafood salad and lentil soup -- really very tasty and pleasant.
Carnegie Hall next door wrong so cannot go wrong here. This is a large restaurant with professional servers who know exactly how to provide efficient smooth unobtrusive service.
No doubt the best place near Carnegie.
Molyvos is the perfect place for a business lunch. It is elegant and comfortable and the food is outstanding. It can get a touch noisy but not as bad as many other places. Could not recommend it more.
Food is always great. Varied menu. Excellent service. Very good wine list. Very good value. Good for conversation.
Excellent Greek food close to City Center Theater and Carnegie Hall. A bit pricey, but with careful ordering you can finesse that. Had an amazing appetizer of grilled sardines--small fillets on toast topped with taramasalata. We shared it, but next time I want one all to myself. The room was fairly quiet for most of our meal, but was starting to get noisy as we left.
We were seated immediately as it was not overly crowded. Water was offered at once as well as bread placed at our table and our menus were brought to the table. The waiter answered a question about wine and we were allowed time to make our selection. To start we selected a Greek salad and Avgolemono chicken soup. Our next plates consisted of Hummus, very tasty, and Spanakorizo Keftedes, which are Crispy Spinach, Rice and Feta Fritters. It didn't take long for these plates to arrive, though meatballs were initially brought instead of the fritters. The Fritters were excellent. If you find your way to Molynos/Molyvos, definitely order the Fritters. We both ordered the same for dinner, Grilled Baby Lamb Chops, done exactly as ordered, Medium and Medium Rare. They were a delicacy! I have been to Molyvos/Molynoz a number times and have always enjoyed a dinner or lunch there.
Excellent food, extensive wine list, attentive and friendly service, great location!
A "Greek" restaurant modified to accommodate American squishiness. Baby octopus, not full-sized, complete octopus, as in Greece (or real Greek restaurants in Europe, particularly Germany). The heads on the baby octopus have been removed because the Americans in general, and New Yorkers in particular, are really squeamish. Metrosexual men. But my real objection was the Retsina (for Americans, Greek wine). It is supposed to have a distinctive flavor of resin. Not their Retsina. Its typical American sugar water. Go to Greece. Find a harbour restaurant where the full-sized octopus is hanging outside and get real Retsina that will set you back on your chair. Molyvos isn't Greece.
Great food, pleasing atmosphere, waiter efficient but no personality or charm.
Great as usual!
Throughly enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent!
I love this place. Unusual food, great ambience. Dessert Sundaes to die for,
Reliable service and always wonderful eats!
My family hugely enjoyed returning to Molyvos for the outstanding food, superlative service, and laid-back atmosphere. Our thanks to the chef and staff!
Food was excellent and noise level reasonable. As a bonus, they served tea in actual pots as it should be served. I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant.
Fantastic dining experience for a special occasion!
Molyvos was great - food and atmosphere were wonderful. However after booking with Open Table and eating there I got an email telling me it did not qualify for point with Open Table -why not ??
Had a wonderful celebratory lunch after a graduation with all our children. Still terrific food, lovely dining room and attentive but not overbearing service.
My family and I enjoyed an excellent meal at Molyvos recently. Everything we ordered was delicious and the portions were a good size -- not too much, not too little. The dining room is cozy, yet gives customers breathing room, so you are not on top of the next table, like so many New York restaurants these days. And the service was good, though it took a little while to get our waiter's attention. Highly recommend if you are seeing something at Carnegie Hall, City Center, or Studio 54. Will be back.
The restaurant is highly overrated. The quality of the food is below average, and definitely not worth the money. The portions are small. The crab cake appetizer was miniscule, and we have eaten better quality crab cakes in in NJ diners. I will not recommend Molyvos to anybody, even though the location is convenient for visitors who stay in local hotels. There are plenty of other places in the neighborhood..
Our waiter disappeared after serving the main course. Gave us dessert menu and then apparently had another diner with special food allergy issues (so manager told us) and he never came back. After waiting 25-20 minutes to order after dinner drinks and dessert we got our check and went elsewhere for the drink/dessert.
Terrible management of the situation. We were seared steps from the reception desk and bar. And no one thought to have someone else assist us. I finally had to flag someone down to get attention / our bill. The food was excellent but the experience ended on an extremely negative note.
Great service and really good Greek food. Greek wines were featured and quite good. Well worth a visit.
Seated in noisey bar area. Waited 20 minutes for someone to take drinks order. Had to request a waiter to take order. Food was over priced.
Decent restaurant for the area and the price. Food was above average and they were very cognizant of peoples show times based on where it was.
Always a treat. Started with the grilled Molyvos vegetables and then the baby lamb chops. Perfection!
Although Molyvos was once a wonderful place to eat and done, t no longer is. Sure, the service is still attentive, prompt, and courteous. But the service can’t make up for the items that have fallen off the menu such as the giant lima beans. Moreover, drinks are expensive and measured with an eyedropper. Overall the value has become poor to fair at best. Take a pass.
It's always comforting to see the owner, in this case, Mr. Livanos on site! food is authentically Greek, reminds me of my Yiayia's cooking....
Had a business dinner here, reserved in advance, showed up on time. Very cold / awkward greeting by the host, and things went downhill from there. Took 15+ minutes to flag down someone to order wine. Dry white that was recommended was sweet, tried two others and none were very good. A fair amount of the dishes were pretty good, but the shrimp souvlaki was burned/charred and not in a good way, and the 2 pound whole snapper was dry and bland. I was deciding between this place and Milos, the only thing I liked better about this place is the noise level is lower. If you are looking for great food and service, try elsewhere.
GREAT food, service and ambience. I eat here every time I come to NYC.
Four of had dinner after a matinee and to celebrate an impending retirement. Molyvos was perfect. Two vegetarians and 2 omnivores and we had so much to choose from! All of it delicious. Octopus appetizer one of best I’ve ever had. Flaming cheese app dramatic - and tasty! Service was attentive, not intrusive. Desserts were creative and delicious. Beautiful restaurant and great food.
