Nellie’s gets its name from Nellie Jonas, a matriarch who was as incredible a hostess as she was a cook. Her ethos of simple, fresh ingredients carries on in Nellie’s menu today. This includes favorites like pecan crusted green tomatoes, chicken fingers with honey mustard, and a breakfast plate that’s absolutely piled. Add grits or fruit, and some Sundays brunch comes with a side order of live music. A great place to gather.

That philosophy extends to the brunch menu which includes a fennel-infused sausage frittata, an indulgent duck confit hash, and the house Benedict with prosciutto do parma. Grab a seat at the well lit, horseshoe-shaped bar and down a Bloody Mary before perusing one of the best brunch menus in Charlotte. Beignets cooked in bacon fat? That’s a favorite. Eggs Benton? No, that’s not a type, but a unique combo of collards, country ham and eggs over easy. For the healthier option, there’s yogurt and granola, but for a really hearty offering, get stuck into the fried chicken sandwich with celery seed slaw. A real treat.
