Seafood
Fashioned after the great cocktail and oyster bars of the golden era, Leo’s Oyster Bar is a glamorous 3-star seafood-focused restaurant in FiDi from Big Night Restaurant Group co-owners Anna Weinberg and James Nicholas, along with executive chef Jenn Puccio. The transportive “1950's Beverly Hills meets Manhattan club" was designed by Ken Fulk alum Jon de la Cruz and has received critical acclaim for its interiors, earning the title of Best Designed New Restaurant from Bon Appetit as well as a nomination for the James Beard Foundation's Best Restaurant Design award. Whether you're posted up with a decadent raw bar plateau in Leo's light and fern-filled conservatory, or enjoying vintage Champagnes within the restaurant's speakeasy-style cocktail lounge The Hideaway, Leo's Oyster Bar offers luxurious, timeless experiences that have earned its place on every San Francisco hit-list.

What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.8

Leo's Oyster Bar involves pricey, but tasty seafood in an '80s power yacht come to life. Obviously it's in the Financial District.

Ratings 7.5-8.0:These are restaurants that are reliable, tasty, and particularly good for whatever we have deemed them “Perfect For.” Hit up a 7.7 for Date Night with confidence, as long as you don’t need the restaurant to be the most interesting thing that happens that night.

One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Arrived at 6:20 for my 6:30 reservations and got seated right away. The dinner lasted 5 glorious hours and we left at 11:30 pm full and happy.
Cocktails of vodka martini, gin gimlet were to die for, specially the 21 seeds hibiscus gapefruit paloma which is new on the menu.
started with the kampachi ceviche and it was fresh and tasty with large pieces of fish.
As always the see food plateau was fresh and delicious filled with different oysters, shrimp and other seafood. We then got a complementary caviar dish which was perfection and salty and tasty and pop in your mouth.
salads, fries, lobster pasta, the amercian wagyu and lobster roll were all to die for. Could not pick a favorite as they were done to perfection.
After 2 bottles of Ruinart Rose, we ordered a beautiful bold bottle of red for our entrees with the help of the knowledgeable sommelier.
To add to our happiness we then ordered desserts, OMG it was instant satisfaction and ended the evening with chocolate espresso martini.
Can't wait to go back and do it all over again. Thank you Leo's Oyster Bar for making it another unforgettable evening for us. See you soon.

It was my first time at Leo’s and I wanted to do something special for my boyfriend because I had a surprise announcement. They sat us in the corner I requested and helped make my surprise extra special. I seriously will never forget the kindness of this restaurant. Thank you so much for everything from the attention to detail and service to the delicious food!

Our server wasn't that attentive. Actively walked passed us. Messed up on our order twice. First time, I specifically asked to take off the tater tot and replace with hummus. He forgot, so the tater tot was on the house and the hummus came later. Fine. But the worst offense of it all was he forgot the Hawaiian roll we placed when we first ordered. When we inquired about it, he passed it off as if we are adding it as a later addition. Fine. Then came the bill, which included the Hawaiian roll that was allegedly added, but was never delivered. We had to ask him to take it off. On top of that, our drinks were just sitting at the bar and I had to ask him if he can check on our drinks. One of our dirty martini literally tasted like salt water, because there was so much olive brine in it. Overall, disappointing. And if you were wondering which table we were, we paid $300 total inclusive of tip. And the tip is at full 20%, because why make everyone else suffers for one bad waiter's inattentiveness. Mind you, this is Friday night in FiDi, no long line and not all tables were filled. Our hostess, on the other hand, was the most wonderful person ever. She was always attentive and thoughtful.

Loved this place. Lively vibe at 9 when we were there. Amazing drinks and food was so good. We had pasta and seafood and everyone loved their dish. The brussel sprouts were the best I have had. Sat at bar and service was friendly and prompt.

Dr. Fleming and Bloody Mary started up nicely before a dozen of raw oysters. The composed oysters, particularly Eye of the Tiger and Diamonds and Pearls, provides a unique perspective for enjoying the delicacy.

The trio of deviled eggs, hamachi ceviche and octopus a la plancha closed our meal on the high note with a plate of seafood linguine.

Came for dinner, and the food was uninspired and bland. We expected much better quality considering the atmosphere and price point. We sat at the countertop by the raw bar. It was our first time at the restaurant, but our server didn't really explain the menu and seemed rather disinterested. She didn't check in on us and never asked if we wanted to order more rounds of drinks, etc. It generally seemed like she didn't want to be there which dampened our experience a bit. We had really high expectations, however we were disappointed in the quality of service and food. The design of the space is really fun, however this isn't enough of a selling point to get us to come back. Go next door to Wayfare Taven instead. You'll spend the same amount of money for better ambiance, better service, better cocktails, and better food.

Cute retro decor, tons of instagrammers here. Super LOUD. Evening vibe more like a bar, crowded, very noisy. Would like to return for lunch, the natural light would be nice with the big front windows. Service was energetic and friendly. The oysters and ceviche- fresh and sparkling. Food and cocktails on point. Not cheap, but worth it for a special occasion. Recommended!

Leo’s was cute, and I think it would be a great stop for drinks, but our food wasn’t all that great. Both of our dishes were pretty bland and unexciting. It seemed like the trout I had was almost flavorless. I was expecting more based on reviews and the general feel of the place.

Wanted to love it more than I did. It was crowded and noisy. I sat in front of the oyster shuckers and they smelled every oyster for freshness, throwing out many because from the looks on their faces, not fresh. The seafood tower looked skinny, not so much food on a large plate. Would look better on a smaller plate. That way doesn't seem like tons of ice and not much else. The deviled eggs by far the best thing.

We happened to be in the financial district later in the afternoon around 2:00 PM , And wanted a little something to eat and happened across Leo’sOyster bar. The bartender was very friendly and professional and we ordered some cocktails and then we decided to have some oysters which were fabulous. I would give the oysters five stars. We tend to like the smaller ones and the bartender was very knowledgeable on where the oysters came from , their size , whether they tasted briny , etc. we also ordered sandwiches which were good but not fabulous my daughter and I ordered the shrimp rolls and my husband ordered the pork belly sliders which were better than our shrimp sandwich. Overall though I would definitely go back here and the oysters are amazing cocktails are amazing and the ambience is fun

It's expensive, but you're getting what you pay for. You can taste the care the drinks are made with and the food was a 10 out of 10. The Brussel sprouts were amazing and are a good portion size for two. The grilled rib-eye was cooked to perfection. Oysters are a little pricey so I would go to HH for those. Service was good—our waiter was super friendly, helpful with suggestions and gave us two complimentary pancakes with carver (so good!). Overall, the experience was great!

Big thanks to the bar staff and the dining staff for seamlessly moving us from the front bar to the back dining room between our cocktails and reservation. They were super accommodating. Really appreciated how easy they made the whole evening flow.
