What Insiders Are Saying
Leo's Oyster Bar involves pricey, but tasty seafood in an '80s power yacht come to life. Obviously it's in the Financial District.
I have been to Leo’s a year ago, decided to go back. Oysters are excellent, mussels were over cooked, fries were oily. Service was very good too but the overall food quality did not live up to my expectation.
It was a great night of surprising menu items and ambiance and great wine!
Food, decor, and service were excellent. I like a place with buzz and energy; however, Leo's was painfully loud on a random Tuesday even after the happy hour crowd cleared out. So loud, it was near impossible to have a conversation with my husband sitting across the tiny table from me. So loud, everyone must shout and conversations at neighboring tables become intrusive. And so cramped the woman at the next table kept whacking me with her long hair. I want to love this place because of the food and design. . . but the strongest lasting impression was the ear-splitting din. So go there to have a delicious cocktail with someone you don't want to have a deep conversation with and then leave quickly before your hearing is permanently damaged.
Booked a few days in advance so my wife and I could take our out-of-town friend to a classic SF restaurant. The front of the house looks nice and friendly, though small, but bar seating looked good. We were given a table in the back of the house, where we could only seat in one side of the 4-person table and the end of the table due to the proximity to next table that did not enable us to seat of both sides of the table -bad table layout in the room. The room was LOUD, very LOUD! The food was good but the menu was very, very limited and main courses were un-inspiring. The oysters were fresh and delicious. Was very disappointed with the table; will not go back.
Always seamless service and obscenely yummy food. Such a great gem downtown - I keep coming back for more. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in SF...
Amazing service, great food and ambiance
I absolutely loved everything about this place! Great atmosphere, food and music. Highly recommend!
Delicious. Great menu, drink options, everyone was friendly and accommodating, definitely somewhere I'd go back to.
Leo’s has great oysters, decor and friendly wait staff! Fun place for drinks/dinner.
Had the shrimp sandwich. Not many shrimp and they were tough, like they had been frozen. Not many shrimp either. It was like they mad a batch salad with a few shrimp and when the got the order, scooped it into the bread. Not very good for the price.
Man, everything was SO salty. The kale salad is pretty much inedible with the sheer amount of salt that is thrown on there. The food was really substandard for the price- we spend a quarter of a grand on a starter, few drinks, two entrees and a few oysters. It was cute decor but honestly not worth the price or the food. I'd pass and not recommend in the future.
The food was quite good but the service was very slow.
Pretty loud environment. The oysters were really good and a great selection. The hamachi was a bit fishier than we're used to. The mussels were very good and fresh. Recommended but be aware it's a bit tight and loud, but the food is great.
Too noisy!!! They need to turn down the music.
Had an amazing time and the food was amazing. The stake was cooked perfect and the wine was great too. Loved the oysters and the server was great!
Horrible service - poor attitude by hostess - our food was forgotten about.
Good food and fun environment, ridiculous prices. I thought I was in midtown Manhattan
Amazing place with great service, recommendations and drinks!
Staff and food was amazing! I will definitely be back again
The decor was beautiful and food was delicious, although a bit overpriced. The staff including waiter and hostess seemed disorganized and unsure of what was going on. They would be conversing and then walk away mid sentence. I’d recommend to a friend primarily for the ambiance.
After trying to get a reservation for over a year we were super excited to finally try this hot spot!
It was super packed, very small and very loud.
Menu is extremely limited and it is very expensive.
Service was very good but we wouldn’t go back.
More of a bar than a sit down restaurant. Tables are close together so I really isn’t the place for a quiet private conversation
Overall, an excellent experience. The tables are cramped if you happen to come in with the intention of eating a lot of oysters, but that’s my only criticism! Attentive staff, good variety of oysters, and the lobster roll is killer.
Came here alone for dinner on a business trip, servers were so accommodating and friendly. Oysters were incredible, tater tots aren't to be missed and the grilled octopus was unique and delish! Classy, fun Instagram-worthy vibe.
Tables are too close together. Very limited menu. The Server had attitude when one of my guests had a dietary request.
A bit more of a date place than a business dinner place.
We love Leo;s and have been there a few times. It's the perfect romantic spot and fabulous for drinks, snacks and conversation. Lovely waitstaff and terrific food. I just keep coming back for the sparkling rose brut.
Such a captivating space. Great cocktails. Shrimp roll perfect to share at lunch. Oysters so fresh, they deserve to be included in name. Just yum.
Been at Leo's a couple times -- at the suggestion of others. I had the salmon salad for $29. If I had 3 oz of salmon, I'd be surprised. It was undercooked and just ok. The salad was a mix of greens, sesame seeds, and other items that I don't think really went together. It was heavily dressed & tasted like it was sitting around in dressing. The prep on the greens was poor as I bit into bits of dirt.
Leo's is popular -- and a cute place, but I'm not a fan of the food.
Really good food beautiful venue
The food and service was excellent, but it was hot. There isn’t good air flow especially in the back room. We were over heated and uncomfortable bc of it.
From service to food, Leo’s did not disappoint! I would recommend to anyone, local or tourist.
Back room was booked so only available space was the front diner area; which with the fixed open door (the Financial District is wind tunnel central) was freezing. The diners were so cramped together it was uncomfortable as first and comical when another patron's meal fell onto my shoulder. Not the server's fault, just really tough to navigate for diners and servers.
Good menu, excellent oysters. Random things were a bit disappointing (steak tartare and moules frites) but pretty solid. Super nice bartender and waiter, one nice hostess and one snotty hostess the second time we went, and they messed up our reservation slightly. Would recommend if someone was looking for good oysters, wouldn't bother otherwise.
Can wait to go back. What a gem the food was amazing! I’ve finally found a Bay Area restaurant that rivals the east coast!
Great food and great service. Too loud for older people but enjoyable
Fabulous food and exceptional atmosphere.
Best happy hour oysters in town!
Great lunch, friendly staff, large portions.
