French
Stephen Starr brings his signature brand of hospitality and design to the nation’s capital with the opening of Le Diplomate, located at 14th & Q. Serving lunch, brunch and dinner, the stylish 260 seat restaurant transports diners to the beloved cafés of Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. The extensive menu features a variety of classic dishes including Onion Soup Gratinee, Steak Frites, and Poulet Roti as well as contemporary bistro fare, with dishes such as Shaved Veal Tongue with Mache and Bavette de Boeuf à l’Echalote. A thoughtfully curated wine list and cocktail program perfectly complements the cuisine and creates an environment suitable for romantic dinners or lively group gatherings. In warmer weather, enjoy dining "en plein air" in the stunning outdoor café where you can take in the bustling energy of DC while sipping on the perfect kir royale.

This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.

I always feel the waiters get annoyed I don't order alcohol with my food. That's my only complaint.

Waiter was very aloof from the start with his long awaited arrival and during our whole meal. Not sure if he was really channeling that French waiter vibe but either way, we received more assistance from the bus boy. Waiter never even introduced himself, so I couldn’t tell you his name. Food was okay, I remember the omelette being better the last time I was there. So a hit and miss type restaurant.

The restaurant was a fabulous recommendation by friends! The staff was pleasant and extremely ready to assist when needed. The food was out of this world and nothing was left on anyone's plates. The one thing I would knock the restaurant for is the noise level. You cannot have a conversation without having to raise your voice.

Food was very very good and our server was awesome but it was much more casual than expected. It was a little loud for the 40+ crowd. I was happy to finally get a reservation.

The fois gras is one of the most delicious items I have ever eaten, including when I lived in France. My other favorite items are the mushroom tarte, the escargots, steak au poivre, moules frites, steak frites, and, yes, even the burger. I have heard much talk about the burger over the years and finally tried it. To be perfectly honest, it was one of the most delicious burgers I have ever had.

Le Diplomate is the perfect spot for brunch in DC. The hostess sat us promptly when I gave our reservation (which you should always make if you're going to brunch) and the food was beyond delicious.

Excellent service with great menu recommendations. The food and drinks were delicious. The tented dining area did fill up and get very loud, making conversation a bit difficult but that doesn’t outweigh the excellent meal and service.

My girlfriend and I were in town for sightseeing and this restaurant was at the top of our list. We made this our spot for the last evening of our trip to celebrate before heading back home. Read all the reviews and this seemed like a no-brainer. The ambiance transported me to Paris. We were seated and I immediately ordered the SoPi which was delicious. Everything started downhill from here. The food was good but not outstanding. The service was abysmal. We were never checked in on again and had to order our food through another server passing by. We were never offered another cocktail or even a refill on water so we ate our dinner without a drink. To make matters worse our server was super attentive to his other tables and simply avoided us like the plague. Such a bummer because this place had potential to be really fun! I don’t plan to ever return...too many other options with better food and service in the DC area!

One of D.C.'s best restaurants. A menu which has great options - all of them great. It is consistent - great food, service and an energetic atmosphere. If you can't make dinner, try the brunch or midi on the weekends.
