Since 2007, Poole’s has been under the stewardship of chef Ashley Christensen and her team, who have honored the spirit of the diner’s comfort food roots while elevating the culinary experience with an emphasis on seasonal, locally produced ingredients and attention to detail. This restaurant, from renowned chef Ashley Christensen, is dedicated to the technique of cooking with wood fire. You can find a delicious wood-fired steak, of course; but much of the menu showcases the element of fire in more subtle ways. Don't miss dishes like roasted oysters with preserved lemon and chili butter; rabbit cotechino with embered kale relish, mustard frills, smoked rabbit jus; and luxurious pastas like the buttery agnolotti with grilled maitake, chèvre, lemon thyme. The space itself is sophisticated and sleek, and full of character. The building was established in 1907 and has formerly housed a funeral home and a bank (the restaurant's name is a hat tip to these former tenants). Don't miss the beverage program, including the extensive wine list. The wine cellar is housed in a former bank vault in the basement.

The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. We relied on our server, Luigi, to guide us from appetizer to dessert, and he never led us astray. With the owners and our server being from Italy my wife and I were able to share some experiences because I still have family that we visit there. Marianna, the owner, stopped and talked to us and made us feel very welcome. If you are in the area, would highly recommend Leaning Tree for truly homemade Italian meal.
