Delicious authentic Mexican food and drink at fair prices with friendly service in a very "East Village" space. Really excellent value. Plus, a number of vegetarian and vegan choices.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal with our Goddaughter who loves the East Village! Nice seats at the sidewalk with the sights and energy of the EV all around us! Great food and great night.
Was excited to brunch at La Palapa after having an awesome experience in January 2018. Very disappointed with the sequel. Waiter was rude and generally slow / unwilling to keep the mimosas flowing. As a result of being more sober due to minimal drinks, we noticed the food is subpar. Recommend brunching elsewhere.
The staff was helpful, funny and patient. Thanks so much
This was a terrible restaurant and also terrible service.
Service was great, friendly waitress and servers. Great food, the marg pitchers were amazing and a great value. Restaurant owner was around as well, very friendly and attentive.
Hosted a birthday brunch for a good friend. The service was excellent and they really accommodated us so well especially as we were a large group of 11 people. Would recommend!
It was for brunch and when we got there the waiter failed to mention the specific entrees we were allowed to order from. He also said we would get fruit with the bottomless brunch but we never got it. Then it took him like 30 minutes to get our second round of drinks. All in all the food was fine but I won’t be coming back to this brunch
Great Mexican food. Loved the queso fundido. Everyone enjoyed
This is one of my favorite Mexican places in the East Village. The food is amazing chips and salsa are the best. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was really hot. The AC was not working. I couldn’t enjoy my meal. As it was my Wife’s Birthday and I had gone with my family. That put a damper on the celebrations. I would recommend the restaurant to not seat guests where it is hot. Over all great food.
Because we got a reservation, we were able to get a table on the outside part, which was really nice. Food was great, drinks were great too. Will definitely be going back.
Always delicious authentic Mexican food - best guacamole and best margaritas in town! Fun atmosphere, friendly staff and really amazing quality for the price.
There used to be 2 La Palapas.....the one on St. Mark's Place (East Village that is still open for business) and the other one on Sixth Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets or 4th and 5th Streets....but on that stretch of Greenwich Village. The Sixth Avenue one was intimate with a small, cozy bar and had great people preparing delicious food in the kitchen and prices that were very easy on the purse or wallet. Those days are gone! The St. Mark's location is crowded, noisy and while the food can often be good, two people eat for a little over $100 including tax and tip. That's TOO MUCH for enchiladas, tacos, and the like....without any drinks, by the way. Imagine what a round or two of drinks and guacamole would add to that! Now you're up to $150 per couple.....things are getting outta hand.
The tacos were very authentic and delicious - it was a really hot day so we sat in the back where the air conditioning was and it was really loud but other than an outstanding meal
BEWARE: HAPPY HOUR IS ONLY AT BAR! Don't bother to sit anywhere else if you're there for the drink specials. Otherwise, you'll pay almost triple the price per drink.
My friend and I arrived for happy hour, thinking our margaritas would be $5 each. Instead, our drinks ended up costing $12+ each. We had a bit of food as well - chips/guac and tacos. Bill was quite pricey because of drinks ($120+). Next time we'll be sure to sit at the bar and skip the tables entirely.
VERY disappointed in the financial surprise.
Good food good vibes good service I enjoyed the experience and will be back
Loved this place years ago, pretty awful now. All of our drinks came out wrong, the food was mediocre. Staff did the bare minimum. Definitely my last visit.
Incredible guacamole!! Enjoyed fish tacos and yummy red sangria...they had a special, $10 a pitcher...couldn't get over it. Sweet server too!
Went with a group of 15 people for my birthday and it was tons of fun! They sat us in a back private room so we had it all to ourselves. They were super accommodating, however the food was pretty awful, especially for the price. And the frozen margaritas were pretty watered down. Still fun though!
Had a great meal. Our server was exceptional. I cannot remember her name but she was awesome.
The food was delicious and the service was great!
Great place for large groups, they were able to accommodate 15 people and called to confirm as well. The food is divine - when the entrees came out everyone stopped talking they were so into what they were eating. Price wise for a large group is very reasonable per person and the drinks were nice as well. We had some serving issues - they came for the order and never passed back again so it seemed like we were hunting them down to get water refills and order more drinks and other items which is why I took off one star. However the people behind us were having a wonderful time and well attended to so maybe it was our size? I would still go back as the food was that good.
Seriously amazing. They never disappoint when it comes to their service, ambiance, and food!!!! Our server was awesome and super sweet and gave us good warning on our bottomless beverage times and was just all around amazing.
Amazing bang for the buck, $17 gets you an entree with unlimited coffee and a mimosa. Don’t even need the bottomless option, but if you get it for another $15 it’s a ton of value. Great spot, friendly staff, nice vibe
Great for a large group birthday brunch! We had our own private room with great lighting.
Food was subpar. Service was fairly good, the waiter had great recommendations, took time to take our drink orders.
La Palapa is a very good Mexican restaurant in the East Village. We were going to a play at the nearby NY Theater Workshop and had no trouble getting to the theater in plenty of time. Our waiter was very friendly and happy to explain menu items we were not familiar with. We expect to return in the near future.
I reserved for 10 for all the mothers in the family, along with 2 teens and an 8 year old. First of all, service was on point. Our server was the sweetest and made sure we were taken care of. Food was amazing, plus great portions. Brunch (including bottomless option) was available until 5pm, which was a pleasant surprise for us. Thank you again for making our Mothers Day celebration a memorable one!
The people were very nice, the service excellent, the guacamole was good, the rest of our four meals, very medicore.
Had a great experience with my mom there! Great service and food!
Great food, great service, great drinks
We went on Cinco de Mayo so I don't know if that was a factor or not but we had an okay dinner. The food was just not what the menu promised. Drinks were very inconsistent, some so strong they were undrinkable. The place was packed but the real issue was noise. It was so loud that we couldn't wait to get out. Really not a great experience overall.
Great food and ambiance. The reservation was handled well and timely. Although not a big restaurant, there was enough space among tables to not feel cramped. Menu was easy to read and waiter was helpful with suggestions. Food was uniformly excellent and was fairly priced. Even the drinks were well done. Would definitely return and would recommend to friends.
Missed drinks, tacos that sat out for so long before receiving them that everything fell apart when you lifted them having to stand by the credit card machine to ask for your check going to an atm to get cash then coming back to leave cash to avoid what was certainly going to be a 20 minute credit card processing dilemma.
Seemed to be a management / service issue, not necessarily a kitchen issue
We LOVE La Palapa. Have been going there for years as local east villagers. The east village has changed, the people have changed, but not La Palapa. Its great to be able to go back to an authentic, really good, comfortable, great food, amazing margaritas and super friendly staff'd place. Thank you for adding Vegan options to your menu. And the Charred beans are to die for. Sooooo good. The only thing that I keep forgetting is that where there are margaritas, there is volume! The place is lively and super energetic, not the place for a quiet conversation. Cant wait to go back.
One of my favorite places in the city. Great food, good service. There are two bathrooms and so there's always a bit of a wait. But for some strange reason, I always make bathroom line friends and the people are always great.
Great, attentive service and delicious food. I would definitely go back for brunch.
Great service and food :) recommended
I went to La Palapa with a big group of friends to celebrate my birthday! They were so nice, and we got the back room all to ourselves. The food was delicious and we had so much fun!
Excellent as always! The roasted Serrano salsa is superb!
