My favorite Mexican restaurant in the city. I always make a point of coming here.
Fun . Good ambience and food was good
This is a great spot for Brunch. There is plenty of room for big groups. I usually come with a group of 8-12 here. Its all you can drink flavored frozen margaritas, mimosas or bloody marys for 2 hours. The food is okay. There are only maybe 6 options for the brunch menu.
Been going to La Palapa regularly since they opened years ago. Love it every time. It’s a good vibe place and the food is always delicious.
So delicious! My friend and I went becauce they were generous to donate a gift certificate to my son's school which I bid on and "won" - Such a great meal, wonderful service. It was a Monday night so they were busy, but not all overcrowded and uncomfortable. Lamb shank was deliciousa!
Any of the dishes with the black mole will be excellent! We also recommend getting the crudite with the guacamole.
La Palapa is a great place to celebrate. The ambiance is bright and the staff is very friendly, providing a great overall energy for young casual east villagers. If brightly colored decorations from floor to ceiling and bottomless mimosas don’t scream happy, I don’t know what does. But what makes La Palapa even better, is you don’t have to compromise good food for a somewhat affordable brunch experience. The meals are delicious. The portions are generous and my friends and I enjoyed every bight. Also, the guac is bomb👌🏼
Thanks La Palapa, this was really fun!
I had a friend date with my friend it was a pleasant experience
La Palapa is an east coast rarity — superb, authentic Mexican cuisine. I had the shrimp mole, and it was marvelous. The mole was rich and spicy hot, but did not overwhelm the dish. We also enjoyed frozen fresh lime margheritas, one without any salt, two with spicy salt, which I hadn’t seen offered before. The spicy red salt was really nice with the fresh lime flavor, and the drink was a good one — definitely NOT a virgin. Finally, the avocado pie for dessert was to die for along with an excellent espresso. If you’re a CSC member, the margheritas are comped with dinner. The other two meals at the table were also exceptional.
Amazing dinner with friends- our waitress was amazing, the restaurant was cute, food was delicious. No complaints !
The restaurant is cosy and the guys are welcoming and friendly. Good food, good drinks; had a nice night with my friend.
We had a great time and everything went smoothly and great! Thank you :-)
Good food, big portions. Opt for the guac. They also gave us complimentary tequila shots.
Had friends visiting from out of town & wanted to go somewhere lively & fun in the East Village on a Friday night, with good cocktails & delicious food for sharing. This ticked all the boxes! Waitress was very accommodating with our vegetarian & pescetarian diners. Margaritas delicious. Food was good, solid Mexican fare. Shrimp mole was the best I’ve had - highly recommend!
They were able to accommodate a group of 12 on last minute reservation and then able to add another 6 guests!! Very good service and a great setting. Pleased with overall experience.
Overall the experience was good. Nose was very loud and hard to talk, but we made it work. Food was out fast and was yummy. Only issue was my steak taco was over cooked.
Cute place and I enjoyed the vegetarian enchiladas. A bit high priced for Mexican food. One appetizer and 2 entrees with soft drinks came to $66 before tip. I didn’t think it was such an upscale a place to warrant those prices. For that reason, I probably won’t go back.
Fantastic as always. Spend every Tuesday at La Palapa:)
The food was terrible. Dry yet greasy at the same time.
Delicious authentic Mexican food and drink at fair prices with friendly service in a very "East Village" space. Really excellent value. Plus, a number of vegetarian and vegan choices.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal with our Goddaughter who loves the East Village! Nice seats at the sidewalk with the sights and energy of the EV all around us! Great food and great night.
Was excited to brunch at La Palapa after having an awesome experience in January 2018. Very disappointed with the sequel. Waiter was rude and generally slow / unwilling to keep the mimosas flowing. As a result of being more sober due to minimal drinks, we noticed the food is subpar. Recommend brunching elsewhere.
The staff was helpful, funny and patient. Thanks so much
This was a terrible restaurant and also terrible service.
Service was great, friendly waitress and servers. Great food, the marg pitchers were amazing and a great value. Restaurant owner was around as well, very friendly and attentive.
Hosted a birthday brunch for a good friend. The service was excellent and they really accommodated us so well especially as we were a large group of 11 people. Would recommend!
It was for brunch and when we got there the waiter failed to mention the specific entrees we were allowed to order from. He also said we would get fruit with the bottomless brunch but we never got it. Then it took him like 30 minutes to get our second round of drinks. All in all the food was fine but I won’t be coming back to this brunch
Great Mexican food. Loved the queso fundido. Everyone enjoyed
This is one of my favorite Mexican places in the East Village. The food is amazing chips and salsa are the best. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was really hot. The AC was not working. I couldn’t enjoy my meal. As it was my Wife’s Birthday and I had gone with my family. That put a damper on the celebrations. I would recommend the restaurant to not seat guests where it is hot. Over all great food.
Because we got a reservation, we were able to get a table on the outside part, which was really nice. Food was great, drinks were great too. Will definitely be going back.
Always delicious authentic Mexican food - best guacamole and best margaritas in town! Fun atmosphere, friendly staff and really amazing quality for the price.
There used to be 2 La Palapas.....the one on St. Mark's Place (East Village that is still open for business) and the other one on Sixth Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets or 4th and 5th Streets....but on that stretch of Greenwich Village. The Sixth Avenue one was intimate with a small, cozy bar and had great people preparing delicious food in the kitchen and prices that were very easy on the purse or wallet. Those days are gone! The St. Mark's location is crowded, noisy and while the food can often be good, two people eat for a little over $100 including tax and tip. That's TOO MUCH for enchiladas, tacos, and the like....without any drinks, by the way. Imagine what a round or two of drinks and guacamole would add to that! Now you're up to $150 per couple.....things are getting outta hand.
The tacos were very authentic and delicious - it was a really hot day so we sat in the back where the air conditioning was and it was really loud but other than an outstanding meal
BEWARE: HAPPY HOUR IS ONLY AT BAR! Don't bother to sit anywhere else if you're there for the drink specials. Otherwise, you'll pay almost triple the price per drink.
My friend and I arrived for happy hour, thinking our margaritas would be $5 each. Instead, our drinks ended up costing $12+ each. We had a bit of food as well - chips/guac and tacos. Bill was quite pricey because of drinks ($120+). Next time we'll be sure to sit at the bar and skip the tables entirely.
VERY disappointed in the financial surprise.
Good food good vibes good service I enjoyed the experience and will be back
Loved this place years ago, pretty awful now. All of our drinks came out wrong, the food was mediocre. Staff did the bare minimum. Definitely my last visit.
Incredible guacamole!! Enjoyed fish tacos and yummy red sangria...they had a special, $10 a pitcher...couldn't get over it. Sweet server too!
Went with a group of 15 people for my birthday and it was tons of fun! They sat us in a back private room so we had it all to ourselves. They were super accommodating, however the food was pretty awful, especially for the price. And the frozen margaritas were pretty watered down. Still fun though!
Had a great meal. Our server was exceptional. I cannot remember her name but she was awesome.
