Steakhouse
Joule, the first restaurant from celebrated husband and wife cooking team Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi, is re-located in October, 2012 to the innovative, newly developed the Fremont Collective in Seattle’s Wallingford/Fremont neighborhood. From its original opening in 2007, Joule has cultivated a loyal dining fan base and captured the attention of an admiring local and national media captivated by the couple’s unique, modern perspective on Korean cuisine. Joule, the mature sibling to Yang and Chirchi’s restaurant, Revel, highlights Korea’s love of beef featuring unconventional cuts accompanied by distinctive and shareable side dishes.

Joule takes reservations for 2 hour time slots. We do our best to accommodate as many guests as we can so we ask to please be considerate of other diners at the end of your meal. If you feel that your party will require more time please let us know in the notes and we will get back to you as soon as possible with our available accommodations.

The food was very delicious. The joule dessert not so much. They automatically charge a 20% tip which I wouldn’t mind if we had excellent service. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive

One phrase says it all.... "spicy rice cakes." I might actually dream about them. Of course the rest of the menu is fun, playful and full of flavor as well. Leave your diet at the door here though... There may be lots of veggies on this menu but it's cooked in lots of yummy goodness that don't quite qualify as a light meal. Lots of dairy free, gluten free, and vegan options for those with food sensitivities. The atmosphere here is bright and energetic and the drinks are solid.

Food was absolutely delicious. The waiter and wait staff were extremely efficient but not super helpful in making menu selections. The noise level goes well beyond energetic to 100% in the way of the experience. I couldn’t hear the person across the table from me at all. It made for an awkward dinner that didn’t let us enjoy the delicious food.

Terrific space with friendly staff that offer recommendations. Excellent variety of meat and vegetarian options. I'd recommend making a reservation or walk in and enjoy a cocktail around the outside fire.

I've been to Joule more than any restaurant in Seattle over a 30 year period...:) It's my favorite! There are many other places that I go to as well, but Joule appeals to me time and time again for its consistency, creativity and hospitality. It's also a neighborhood gem, so it's very likely I will run into someone I know from my own neighborhood, and that's valuable all by itself. Thank you for your commitment to excellence, flavor and fun! Caroline

This was a hard place to get a table for dinner on a Fri-Sun even if you try reserving. For the wait it took to get in, the food was worth the wait. The portion size here are like small plates to share. For our party of 2, we ordered 2 starter dishes and 3 regular entrees to share and it was barely enough to feed us. Food we ordered were curry pickled beets, kaya toast, geoduck fried rice, grilled octopus w/ bok choy, and the beef short rib. The surprise of the night was the curry picked beets, it was sour, tangy, then sweet, and savory all in a bite. The beef short ribs, kaya bread and grilled octopus was very good as well. The disappointment was the geoduck fried rice, a little fishy, not as much geoduck and flavor. Overall this was a good place for a dinner date or a night out, I'd recommend a try, and you should definitely get the beets and beef short ribs and then add a few more to share

I enjoyed my date for dinner on a Wednesday evening. It was not extremely busy but had the feeling of being a little tight on space.
Wine selection is appealing and not too overwhelming. Good choices available.
Our family style meal was great and met a high expectation for quality. I would have preferred if the quantity was greater, but we were well satisfied.
I would recommend Joule for a casual dining experience that is interesting and highly palatable!

Brunch was fantastic. Creative spins on classic and not-so-classic dishes ("open-faced" bao? YES!). Themed buffet was so tasty and different (ours was Bahamian). Too bad it was too cold to sit around the firepit, but did that on a different occasion and it was very pleasant.

Joule totally lived up to their reviews! Been waiting to come in a group to be able to try a lot of menu items and everything we tried was very well executed and tasty. Favorites include any of the steaks ( much debate over which was best), the eggplant, beets, and desserts (cheesecake and fudge cake we're truly decadent). Our server was super knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. We'll be back soon! Enjoyable night!

Joule is an adorable spot that serve creative korean/ asian fusion. The service is great, servers are polite and friendly. We didn't have great appetite so ordered only few dishes, the short rib is amazing, cauliflower is tasty as well. The thing that's the most impressive is the dessert wine. I tried the mocha one and it is really awesome. Will recommend to a friend!

I selected Joule for a casual dinner with 2 business associates. We had a 5:30 reservation. The first two of us arrived at 5:30, with the third arriving at closer to 6 due to severe rain and Seattle traffic. We had several appetizers. First of all, for the money, the portions are small. For three men to share dishes, everyone got about a spoonful of each item. The shrimp cocktail 2.0 was OK at best. The beef tartare was very tasty, but again, so small that it was almost not worth it. The Kaya toast was our favorite, white bread with a sesame butter for spreading. Nothing special, but good. As a side note, it is their "house-bread", but they charge you for it. For dinner we ordered three entrees and one side. But they all came out at very different times, absolutely staggered. This only added to the perception that every dish is so small, because three men had to share each dish individually. Each appetizer came about 10 minutes apart, then we got the spicy rice cakes, which were supposed to be an entree. They were delicious, our favorite dish, but again, three really hungry men sharing this was not enough. Then the eggplant side dish showed up. We killed that quickly, it was not enough. Then the wagyu tri-tip and the ribeye came. The tri-tip is not very larger either. The ribeye was a healthy portion, but by that time, we were so hungry that we inhaled it. In summary, this place has good flavors, but you will leave hungry unless you spend a lot of money. The service was either off that night, or they just like to stagger out the plates, which we did not like. If I was to ever eat here again, which I most likely will not, I would insist that my food all come out together. All in all, it was disappointing, as we had very high expectations. Not terrible, but a serious let-down.

Nice casual high end venue, good service but disappointed with food portions. I was told by the server that it’s family style Dinning but the portions were small and definitely not family style Dinning. Food was good but nothing great or spectacular and not worth the price. Nice to try but wouldn’t come back

Having written a previous rave, I will simply add it remains the best brunch in those cities I know well: Seattle, SF, Berkeley, Oakland, Honolulu, LA, Portland, and San Diego. I defer to others about whether it is the best in the US, let alone the world.

The quality of Rachel Yang's preparations continues to amaze. I certainly wish the wine selection could match it...I admire the fact that she (or her wine director) want to support 100% northwest, but to hit glass pour pricing, the selections are certainly weak. In the future, we'll definitely bring our own bottles, pay the corkage and really enjoy the great food and service!

Delicious food from start to end, great drinks menu; only reason it's not 5 stars is that we had a tough steak, which with "wagyu" in the name of the dish should just never happen! Otherwise, the seasonings and combinations of flavors and techniques were just delicious. And it's not the kind of place where you sit there and think, "We could make this at home", because you couldn't!

Joule was delicious! The brunch bar was awesome, lots of flavorful food. It was better than my main dish, which was the bao with meat inside. The bao was a little dry and I was hoping for more miso flavor, but overall it was a great meal and I’d go back.
