Toronto has many excellent Italian restaurants that serve top notch food and have amazing service. Il Ponte is not one of them. SKIP IT left standing at the entrance for a while with no acknowledgement despite having reservations; brusque initial service and seating...just disinterest and almost disdain of the customer. I could go on. The food is a 7 out of 10 (I'm Italian & eat at Italian restaurants regularly, and am not easily impressed by just any Italian dish). It was a joke. Service was very slow. Then THEY SERVED US THE WRONG ORDER. Worst part: we got the sense that they realized their error midway through & tried to dupe us. By that time, we saw what a joke this place is & decided to just go with it because it is too much of a bother to correct them. It was clear that they were confused & disinterested. Shouldn't be too tough to get a customer order right! We ordered 1. two apps as a meal for me (salad & grilled octopus) 2. stuffed calamari for husband (main). My salad came first, like a first course rather than with the octopus and with my husband's food. Then v. long wait. Finally, they served us 2 grilled octopus apps instead of the stuffed squid for my husband! Initially, we thought they were sharing my octopus app btw us & that my hubby's squid would arrive. But no. That was it. They served my husband an app as his dinner instead of what he ordered-stuffed calamari. When the server took our plates, he asks us "any other courses coming?" and similar comments. It seemed they might have known their error & thought we didn't notice. As if we can't tell! The wait for the bill at the end was long & painful! Server talking to friends & staff rather than focussing on customers. Lackadaisical. No one checked on us during meal to ask how meal was. A joke.
They go all out to make your dinner enjoyable
Such a lovely evening! Great food and our server couldn’t have been nicer:)
Food was wonderful. Patio was busy so service a bit slower and rushed at the end due to 3:30 closing for lunch service.
Overpriced for less than below average food. Extremely poor service.
This was our second time in 3 weeks. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We had gone the first time with friends who also really liked it and went back with another couple.
Our second visit was with different friends who also said that they intended to come back very soon.
Overall there I can't say enough. The food, the service and the pricing were all great. Try it you'll like it.
Amazing food - so fresh and tasty!! Service was lovely and just a great vibe. Will definitely go back.
Il Ponte is perfect every time!
The food for the most part was very good. halibut was slightly overcooked. The restaurant was very busy so service could have been a little better.
Il Ponte is a phenomenal restaurant. The owner Giancarlo and his staff are very welcoming and the food is exceptional.
Disappointed. Lot a lot of great hospitality.
Table wasn’t ready for us when we arrived abs staff were eager to kick us out after dessert which was only 1045.
What a lovely surprise to see John!!! Everything was perfect, it was a great night out. The tempura zucchini flowers were amazing!
Excellent from wine to dessert! Great menu. Great service. Great spacious patio.
Il Ponte is a great restaurant, Johnny takes care of us every time. I had a pasta with mushrooms and rupini that was the best pasta I ever had.
Great place, good wine, exceptional service.
We have missed this wonderful gem of a restaurant and were excited to return after they were permitted to have patio dining. The atmosphere is terrific, the service is outstanding and the food is delicious!
I could say a lot more, but I think this says what you need to hear.
Never disappointed. Food is delicious and fresh. I usually go for apps and entrees. Service and owner Gian Carlo are amazing. My go to restaurant all the time
This restaurant was amazing! They made me a dish that wasn’t on the menu which was so delicious and appreciated how accommodating they were. Our server was great and made our overall experience that much better.
We were so glad to be able to return to eating at Il Ponte! The staff are great! The food is both very delicious and well presented. Can't wait to be able to eat inside again!
My server asked me if I “could read” and loudly corrected my pronunciation of a dish in front of other guests. He also reprimanded me for ordering said dish because it was from the lunch menu, when he was the one who gave us the lunch menu by accident. He assumed my friend and I were on a date due to the typical patronage of the establishment. Hence, because I was the one who was answering back to his misogynistic comments, he only addressed me, let me taste the wine, and gave me the whole bill at the end of the night without asking prior. He also wore his mask off one ear (as in, not covering his face AT ALL), while scoffing at my friend and I for enjoying a song he believed we were faking knowing due to our age. Overall, I could not believe the condescending manner in which my friend and I were addressed… Clearly due to the fact we are young women.
One of our guests was late and the server told us immediately that he would have to flip our table in an hour, which wasn’t a great start to the meal. The food was just okay- was hoping for homemade pasta noodles. We ended up staying for two hours, so we weren’t rushed out after all.
Excellent food, with great service on a very nice patio. Patio is nicely isolated from traffic and reasonably quiet for being right downtown.
Great service and food, will go back
We celebrated my sisters birthday.
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon on the beautiful private patio. The service was outstanding. *
The service was 10/10. All of the staff were so sweet and really accommodating. The food and wine were also amazing
It was wonderful to be back in a restaurant and looked after. The food was wonderful, service outstanding. They have really created a beautiful patio, with lots of lush plantings.
We must support this business and owner. My fave italian restaurant on so many levels!!
What a phenomenal experience. The service, food, atmosphere — everything — were all phenomenal. Customized to my celiac requirements, totally safe, and we felt truly cared for with warm, Italian hospitality. What a bright spot in a tough week. Can not recommend it highly enough.
My favourite italian joint in TO. The owner Giancarlo is a gracious host. Always feel welcome there and look forward to going back
We had a wonderful dinner and will go back
Really cute patio on the side vs having to sit directly along Queen Street, so much more private. Service was great, really enjoyed the food. It was our first time back at a restaurant since COVID so not sure what to expect but we had a really nice dinner, would definitely recommend this place!
Well worth the visit.
Amazing food, service and just such a great little gem of a restaurant!!!
Delicious anniversary dinner. Very good service!
We went for dinner last Friday. The patio tables are well distanced from one another. The service was great and the food awesome. The traffic on Queen E/DVP can be a bit loud at rush hour, but the food is well worth it.
First time back since winter to a favourite restaurant.
Better than last summers patio experience b/c so good to have a first dinner out since February on such a beautiful summer evening with my kids.
Excellent food as before.
Great to see that Il Ponte is BACK 👍🥳👌!
Great server, we had to be moved inside but there was no AC so it was a bit hot. Otherwise great service and food.
Happy with everything but being told by Open Table that we had missed our reservation.
Looking forward to our next visit...lovely restaurant, food was terrific !
