GATO is owned by Bobby Flay and Laurence Kretchmer who previously owned the Spanish restaurant, BOLO, together for 15 years. BOLO met an unfortunate demise when its building was torn down to make way for a new development. The partners vowed to revive the spirit of BOLO. They are thrilled to launch GATO as its next renewal.

What Insiders Are Saying
Gato will remind you why Bobby Flay became famous in the first place - because he can cook.
The service and food were outstanding. If I could award 6 stars for service I would for Cory and his second to none knowledge of the menu and recommendations and explaining the menu and selections. This was my first visit to Gato and I will be returning. My wife had the Taragon chicken and said it was the best chicken dish she ever ate. My son had the beef and licked his plate clean. I had the rabbit and loved it. Try the baked octopus appetizer as it’s a very good change from typical calamari offerings and was very tender and tastee.
I can’t wait to return!
Best meal I ever had! The scrambled eggs may be my all-time favorite dish ever!
2nd time for dinner at GATO with my wife. It was even better than I recalled. We shared a variety of small plates and bar bites - everything was excellent. Attentive and personable service. Romantic. We were seated with a view of the kitchen and enjoyed the fact that Bobby Flay was present.
Amazing Spanish food. In my opinion, they have to be careful to not keep adding typical non-Spanish dishes. It messes with the theme and strengths of the restaurant.
Staff went above and beyond to make last minute birthday accommodations. It was perfect
We return many times, recommend and bring friends. The food and service are usually top notch and create a wonderful dining experience. My one criticism and for me as a coffee afficionado, it is a big one- the coffee was awful. It was stale, tasteless and temerature was warm not hot. This is not in keeping with Gato's high standards. I hope you correct this and put as much energy into serving satisfying coffee as you do the rest of your delicious cuisine.
I wouldn’t go here for a first date, but it’s a fantastic restaurant to go with someone you have been seeing for a while. Great ambiance and amazing food.
The food was excellent. The hostess and bar staff were very pleasant and attentive. I loved our drinks, especially the Jimmie, it was delightful. Our waiter was Stephen and I would say he wasn’t all that pleasant, kinda snooty and seem to judge us southern girls during our entire dinner. I would say if we had a better waiter I would have rated the service much better. I usually tip 20% for good service and that is why he only got 15%. Out of the bar food/small plates selection we had the Burrata, 12 layer potatoes and pork belly all of which were amazing. The paella, the beef, chicken and pork chop were all exceptional.
The food is excellent, don’t miss the tagliolini with mussels!
We had to wait over 40 minutes to be seated but the manager offered us the wine to apologize for the long wait.
I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a fancy restaurant with excellent food
I read mixed reviews before deciding to go. I wish I listened to the negative ones. Seriously was not very good. I am perplexed by all the great accolades. Maybe you have to order specific dishes but to me, at a restaurant like this, EVERYTHING should be stellar. As another reviewer put so succinctly
Celebrated my birthday here last week with my close family members. They had a little mishap with the reservation & a surprise that got out, so the staff more than made up for the mistake with amazing service & checking back on us through the night, plus a few comp apps & dessert - which was quite generous of them. The food was amazing & I highly recommended the restaurant to friends & coworkers the next day. We shared the bar trio of burrata, eggplant & lamb. Then had the octopus app & scrambled eggs. I had the charred beef which was delicious (though very lightly overcooked for the medium rare I asked for...maybe as for medium if you like steaks pink!) The table also shared crispy potatoes & brussel sprouts on the side, both yummy. The ambiance was nice, beautiful decor, and the high cielings helped cancel out the noise so we could actually hear each other talking! The service was great & kind staff so I'd definitely return. Perfect place for a nice dinner, special event or date night. The only thing missing was meeting Bobby himself!
Dinner date with Sis..
Wonderful meal! Friendly & attentive staff. Outstanding meal!
Service was amazing, food was SO delicious! My only complaint is that the portions are way too small!!
My third time here. Our server was nice but too busy to do his job properly. 15 minutes to take our drink orders, and after 45 minutes I got up to ask for bread.
My appetizer was served room temperature, but the others were delicious...especially surprised by the scrambled eggs.
The food was very good. I’m a big Bobby Flay fan so I’ll give it another try.
Start to finish excellent. Amazing food, immaculate service!!!
The food and service were both excellent!
The food was really good and every item we had was exceptional. The best meal we had while in NYC and Gato had some great competition.
We booked for New Year Day and it was a great choice. We went with friends so there were 4 of us! A fairly low key evening at Gato so the hostess was kind enough to seat the four of us in a booth..as she stated, "on a normal night I could not do this but we are not crazy this evening so it will be ok". We ordered many share dishes and all were fantastic. The ricotta, the truffle pizza and the pita spreads were great! then we ordered our meals and my girlfriend and I shared the kale and rice paella...WOW!!! excellent and the crispy potatoes..out of this world!! We did not have dessert..too full:) but bet it was delicious as well. Our waiter was great..even spent the time trying to find the right cocktail for me....we ended up with tequila with a little lemon juice..not too sweet not too sour! We lovingly named it "Tequila Sunshine"!!..
Bobby Flay, you hit the mark! We will be back!!!
Went in for a low key New Year’s dinner. The food was very tasty and servers knew what they were doing! Will be going back!
This was our 4th time at Gato. We always try to eat there when we’re in NYC. As usual, the food was amazing! The only disappointment was not catching a glimpse of Bobby Flay. The waiters/bartenders tell us that “he’s here all the time”, but we somehow always miss him. ☹️
Thank gato there was a pancho cart afuera del restaurante.
The best meal you will ever have. Spectacular service. Unbelievable tasting menu. Waiters will point you in the right direction. Unbelievable experience.
It was perfect!
Best dinner we ever had! Perfect from appetizers to dessert. Service was excellent too. Can’t wait to return.
Very overpriced wine list. I have ordered the black linguini with squids and shrimp. No joke, I had 1 pc of squid size of a penny!!! and 2 pc of shrimp over a very small amount of pasta. I am not a big eater but we had to order a pizza too to feel that we have something in our stomach. The waiters messed up the tables and they gave our orders to the table next to us. They did not have the dessert we ordered (which is very unusual from a $$ restaurant!) that would normally come with vanilla ice cream so we just ordered 1 scoop of ice cream and that was the tiniest scoop ever for 4$. Very expensive and we left still kind of hungry. The enterior was nice. That is the only pros.
This was one of your favorites in NYC! We received excellent service from the waitress who was gracious when we accidentally ordered something wrong. Also received complimentary sherry to go with dessert which was the icing on the cake! Definitely recommend for good tapas and service!
Visiting the city, we went on date night to Gato. We came because we're huge fans of Bobby Flay, but I'm happy to say we were more than impressed by the experience. Everything from the ambience and architecture to the food was excellent. The food was sublime, and I don't use that lightly. Even the bathrooms were beautiful and well thought-through as part of the whole experience. I would absolutely return.
Highlights include excellent wine and advice from sommelier; great appetizers and side dishes; desserts were exceptional. I had the charred beef and it was excellent. Others at my table were less enthused about their pasta and fish dishes. I've dined here before and had the same fish and thought it was excellent.
Awesome. Great place with awesome food and service
Went to Gato for a small retirement dinner and we really enjoyed the food. The scrambled eggs and grilled octopus were are favorite small bites. For the entree make sure you try the charred beef.
A little expensive, but the food is delicious. Everything we ate was great, and service was excellent.
Traveled all the way from NC just to eat at this restaurant, and it lived up to my expectations! The food was phenomenal and the service was impeccable! I was extremely happy with every aspect of the meal and will definitely go again the next time we make it to NYC!
The Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve was a first for us, and so glad it was at Gato. The holiday bonus was getting to see Bobby Flay in the kitchen. All the food was on point, the service was incredible from the hostess, bartender, bussers and server. Top notch!
The mood was great and so excited to see Bobby there! Our server was so nice and handled everything with smile. I loved the 3 tasting menu the best!!
Gato is New York’s best all around restaurant. There are so many creative flourishes such as the three small tapas you can choose as an appetizer. It also has one of the best wines by glass experiences thanks to proper wine storage behind the bar.
Went for the Christmas Eve feast for the second time and it did not disappoint. Even better than the last! Friendly staff and excellent food -- it really helped set our holiday off right!
