We enjoyed this casual restaurant and the 1/2 bottles of wine on Saturday night. The conveniende to Everyman and the Hippodrome can't be beat although the garage is ridiculously expensive at $18 for the evening. not well maintained. The pizzas were above average, as were the brussel sprouts. The mussles were tender but the sauce needed more interest and the bread served with it was stale and inedible. Finally, a simple tossed salad would be a great addition to the menu as would at least one, more conventional pasta dish.

We went to Forno with friends for the first time before a show at the Hippodrome theatre. The food was fine, but the service seemed really slow. We were seated in a nice booth near the back of the restaurant so we were probably shielded from most of the noise. I would go back, but I would allow myself way more time before a show. It is quite convenient for dining before the Hippodrome theatre.

Love the vibe at forno but our dishes were a bit bland and could have benefited from a bit more spice. Will come back for convenience to the theater district but hoping they’ll spice it up just a bit more! Had the pasta with tahini sauce -maybe a touch of nutmeg? And hubs had a pizza and thought it was bland. Crust was awesome but top was bland.

Great place to dine before a show at the Hippodrome since it is right across the street. We have dined here several times over the past few years. Our service was excellent during this last visit! My husband & I always split a pizza and an appetizer. I highly recommend both, especially the mussels. The food is always very tasty! We generally split a dessert over a cup of coffee. However, we won't be doing that anymore. The cost dramatically increased while the portions significantly shrunk.

Forno is cute but over priced and the food is over salted! We had the meatballs, kale Caesar salad, pesto pizza and papperdelle bolognese - all of which were EXTREMELY salty, even the salad was salty because of the anchovies. Glasses of wine are $30+. I understand it’s a wine bar but there are plenty of wine bars and upscale restaurants that offer a range of wines at various price points. The ambiance is nice but I can’t see myself going back.

Forno Restaurant & Wine BarResponded on March 2, 2023Hello Lana, Thank you so much for dining with us. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance! We are sorry that our food and wine prices were not to your liking. The chef has reviewed our recipes to make sure that they do not come out over salted again. Our reserve wine list has glasses for $30+ but we also offer 22 wines by the glass ranging from $9-$15 for every palate and budget. We hope you will give us another chance! First glass of wine is on us if you present this review ;)

The building has had no HVAC since July, according to the wait staff, and it was absolutely freezing throughout our meal. The staff wear hats, coats and gloves while serving, and the poor patrons wear their coats and still absolutely freeze. The City should suspend their license until it's fixed. Lost two loyal customers last night.

Service was wonderful. Friendly and came around to check on us every now and then without being overbearing. It was a Thursday night, and it wasn't a full house. Ambience was chill. Lighting was a good middle, not bright, but not too dim (definitely not dark like Cheesecake Factory). Noise Level was low. Food was delicious, except for one of the desserts (chocolate espresso cake was on the dry side). Pork Belly was tender, albeit a little bland. The Lamb Ravioli was good. Crispy Brussels Sprouts were the winner, out all of the dishes. Pappardelle with Bolognese was good. Handmade noodles had the perfect al dente bite and the Bolognese sauce was flavorful. Spaghetti and Pesto was a surprising dish. Pesto was a little tangy and the roasted sunflower seeds provided a nice crunch. Vegan Pizza was fine, but not remarkable. Portions were fair, but price is on the higher side.

We went to Forno’s prior to the Theater. It was Winter Restaurant Week but we wanted to have a small mea and chose from the menl. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. She was checking us just to see if we needed anything. Excellent Server! We chose Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Pepperoni and Cheese pizza. We took half of the pizza to the car while we were in the theater. (It was good that the weather was as chilly as a refrigerator!) It was the best pizza we have had in years!! The Brussel Sprouts were good also. We really enjoyed the food! The only problem was it was cold in there. We had the leave our coats buttoned. It is an old building with large windows. Everything else was very good.

We were seated directly next to another table even though there were 4 other empty tables down the row. The portions were small, but didn’t taste good enough to account for this, nor was the price low enough to excuse it. I have been here twice and felt that same way, once for restaurant week and once normally. Overpriced and underserved.

We had a delicious dinner before going to the Lyric. Crispy Brussels sprouts, buffalo mozzarella, two pastas and dessert! Prices are reasonable, homemade pasta is a standpoint, and our server was outstanding!!! Only negative was it is always a little chilly in there. Old building and concrete floors. I wouldn’t let that sway someone from eating there because the food is delicious and the service friendly and attentive, but remember to bring a sweater. Will be back in a few Saturdays with my daughter after Everyman.

This is VERY easy if you have tickets to the Hippodrome Theater. I have not tried the pizza, but will if I go back. The brunch food it okay, not great. Same with the desserts. The desserts look homemade, and not in a good way. I will probably go back because we have season tickets to the Hippodrome. I will order pizza next time. I do not see myself going here except for the convenience.

Service was pretty slow but I think they were really understaffed. My friend and I ordered the lobster spaghetti that our waiter recommended. It was completely tasteless, the spaghetti was overdone and clumped together, and the lobster was tough. I was really disappointed because the dish was pretty pricey. I normally don’t send things back but it was inedible. It took us awhile to get the attention of our waiter but once we did, we sent the spaghetti back and ordered a pizza instead. Pizza was great and the cocktails were tasty. Overall, an okay experience but a little disappointed, to be honest. Don’t know if I’ll be back.

Love the menu, the specials are always seasonal and very good. Half-priced wine is always a great value but hard to choose between that and the tasty cocktails. Pizzas have great toppings/flavors and the crust is perfect! Staff is attentive and could see the team work between front of house & kitchen. Very enjoyable experience before a show.

We stopped here before a show at the Hippodrome as we have done on many occasions. We’ve always had great food and drinks here so it was our show “go to” spot. However, this visit was just meh. One thing that we found odd was the we couldn’t order appetizers before ordering our food. Which is fine, but when our smoked brussel sprouts came out it was ice cold. Like, they put the order in with our drinks then left it there until we ordered food. We also ordered the duck ravioli and had to contend with bones in every bite. No one expects there to be bones in ravioli and it made it very unpleasant to eat. The drinks were great though.

The service is always top notch. This visit we were a bit disappointed in the food. The 2 guests who ordered the duck ravioli did not feel it lived up to its price, they didn't get a good duck taste. And we ordered the key lime pie for dessert and it came out in a frying pan where the crust was overcooked, almost burnt, sticking to the pan. While the concept was interesting it didn't work. The server did take it off our bill. The 2 chicken dishes, especially the caccitorie one guest ordered were tasty.

It's very clear that Forno is the the only 'nice' / sit-down restaurant super close to the Hippodrome, so it's convenient and I imagine this demand healthily sustains them. That said, it was an underwhelming experience. We only tried the hummus and two pizzas, and while they were okay, it wasn't the best pizza we've ever had and was also closer to room temperature than hot. Drinks took a very long time to come out, and the bread that comes to the table was a little stale. We did enjoy half priced bottles on a Saturday night, but the server who brought the bottle over clearly didn't know how to open the bottle of Prosecco - she stuck a corkscrew into the the cork! She also gave us red wine glasses to drink Prosecco instead of flutes. Not really an issue, but staff seems a little unexperienced. Overall it's a fine place to come if you're seeing a show at the Hippodrome, but I wouldn't seek it out by itself. Heads up, at least based on our experience, you'll want a reservation if you're visiting before a show.
