   We loved everything about our visit to Food for Friends. The restaurant is really comfortable and there’s plenty of space. The service was great - our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. He was happy to give suggestions and extra information. And the food was amazing! One of the best meals we’ve ever had. It was all so interesting and tasty with really delicious ingredients. I’m looking forward to going again!

   Food for Friends came highly recommended by a couple of friends who had dined there. I decided to take my best friend who lives in East Sussex for birthday lunch on the late Spring Bank Holiday. We both loved it. Food excellent, as was the staff and the whole ambience of the place. Well worth my journey from North London.

   The restaurant was calm and welcoming and not too noisy. The serving staff were very friendly and polite. We ordered the olives and crispy tofu for starters… the sauce that came with it was absolutely delicious and we couldn’t stop eating it! Next we both had the burger and was amazed at the balance of flavours and textures… so delicious! I am not vegetarian but was more than happy with my food.

    Food was fantastic couldn’t fault it. However, service was really slow. Sitting outside wasn’t great as we got pestered by homeless people and people constantly walking next to the tables. Saying this the food is excellent and we managed to get a table inside which was better.

    Such a fab menu with a diverse choice of beautifully prepared dishes. We were a group of four and each ordered a different small plate and main and all were delicious.

    We arrived a little bit before our reservation time (6.15pm) but not a problem with the restaurant. We had a very nice greeting at the desk, which set a nice atmosphere for us both. We had a very attentive waiter. He helped with advice regarding the menu. The service and food was excellent. We found, that the choice of "small or large plates" for a main course was certainly right for us.

    Visiting this restaurant on a Sunday, I opted for the Roast option which was one of the best I've had anyway. My partner had another vegetarian meal (it is a veggie establishment), which apparently was good though a little too salty. Overall the offerings of this long established eatery are very good, and we would go back again.

    I was so disappointed with my experience at this restaurant due to the service. We arrived at 12:30, ordered at 12:45 and were still waiting for our door at 2:05pm. It arrived just as we walked out having asked what was going on several times. The explanation given was that there had been an incident in the kitchen but others who arrived after us seemed to be getting their orders. Believe me I am supportive of the resteraunt business but would suggest that you avoid this establishment unless you are prepared to wait a long time for your food. Such a shame

    Lovely food but very slow. Waited an hour for one main dish and chips. Had to ask for plates. Then didn’t give us clean plates for main so just used the same ones from starter, which was fine but surprised they didn’t ask. The wait seemed excessive- only 3 tables of diners.

    This restaurant has a real ongoing issue with stocking everything on their menu and serving in a timely manner. One of our party had been here 2 days prior and found that they had no beer in stock. When we went, the first thing we asked was whether there was any beer. We were told only an pilsner by the manager, then when I went to order the pilsner, the waiter claimed they only had IPA, finally a lady served us a single pilsner. An hour and 10 minutes after we arrived, the waiter tried to serve us (a party of 2 that ordered two burgers) a single burger that we'd watched under the heat lamp being stared at by various servers for the preceding 15 minutes. After some strong words with the server and manager we were served two (apparently) fresh burgers just three minutes later. Hallelujah. Throughout the experience the manager claimed that the wait would be long because they were so busy however most of the time we were there, none of the 5 tables in our area of the restaurant had any food in front of them. Clearly this is a woefully unprepared and poorly managed kitchen for a dining room too big for their boots. As the icing on the cake when I showed the waiter my card, suggesting I'd like to pay for the bill he'd brought to us 5 minutes earlier, he gave me a big thumbs up and went back to cleaning tables, until we both got up and got ready to walk out, at which point he suddenly appeared with a card reader. As a vegan, I really wanted to like this place as a cool little venue to bring friends. Unfortunately it's a hot mess of limited and understocked menu, an absent kitchen and clueless staff.

    Really disappointing. Food very mediocre. Rice undercooked and curry poor. Service charge automatically added to bill for group of four diners. Really let down as I’d heard great things about the restaurant and it was a special occasion.

    I have been going to F4F since Ramen owned it about 15-20 years ago & have always loved it. Sadly the food is nowhere near as good any more. Curry was very salty. Rocket salad gritty. Service was brilliant. Prompt, polite- we were not rushed out of our table. Just a shame that food was not very good. Maybe a new chef?

    On my previous visit to the restaurant the food was excellent - really interesting flavour combinations, good portion sizes and somewhere I would definitely visit again, hence this reservation. However on this visit, the food was disappointing at best. Much smaller portions, average flavours, not warm enough and really poor value for money based on the high pricing. It’s a real shame that this Brighton institution that I have been visiting since I moved to Brighton 25 years ago has gone down so much in quality.

    We had a lovely time at Food for Friends yesterday. The food was delicious and beautifully selected and presented. Service was slow despite the restaurant being relatively quiet but we didn’t feel rushed at any point which was nice

    Good food, both of us had a main and pudding. I had one cider and the lady had a water, came to £75. Pricey but its worth splashing out if you want a tasty meal that comes from plants then this is a go to birthday restaurant.

    A brilliant experience as we were celebrating a friends birthday, all of the staff brought us some complimentary truffles and sang happy birthday! They even made us a plate with our band name in chocolate. Big shout out to Terry - thank you!

    We arrived at 7.20pm , main course served 9.15pm, by which stage we had finished our wine. Another 5 mins and we would have left. Food when it arrived was very average. So disappointing, it was my birthday. Will not be going back.

    Initially we were very unimpressed with the menu. Then we saw food arriving on other tables and our enthusiasm grew. The food was delicious and our waitress, Carmen, went over and above creating a personalised dessert. Her efforts and humour resulted in a brilliant evening. Many thanks.

    Amazing service and fantastic food (3 courses). Our server was so attentive with our dietary requirements but not overbearing in the slightest. They made my partner's first visit and birthday extra special by bringing out a birthday plate. Extra points for keeping tasteful and not makng a huge deal out it/ singing which was much appreciated. I've eaten here a handful of times now and it never disappoints.
