Market Place Tavern is the latest concept and restaurant for Market Hospitality Group (MHG). The Tavern which overlooks the Litchfield Green, is the oldest public building in town and one of the oldest penal facilities in the state. It was built in 1812 to serve as a jail for British prisoners during the War of 1812. A cell block and a three-story wing with additional cell blocks, which now is part of the restaurant’s bar area, was added in 1846. The jail closed in 1992 and was used as a treatment center for men serving prison sentences. It shut down again in 1993 and reopened in 1994 as a rehabilitation center for women facing incarceration. When that center closed, the state decided to sell it.The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and features “American Tavern Food” with Craft Beers and Cocktails made with local spirits.     What a lunch. Amazing food (pretzels and bbq burnt ends are a must), great service and a cool vibe in Litchfield. And when was the last time you had watermelon juice? Worth the drive.

    We had a truly exceptional dinner at Winvian. The food was exquisite from start to finish...beautifully prepared, thoughtful, and memorable without ever feeling fussy. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance: simple, elegant, warm, and quietly refined. The staff was outstanding as well...attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being overly formal, and clearly proud of the experience they help create. Every detail felt considered. And of course, the setting is hard to beat. The farm itself is bucolic and peaceful, adding so much to the overall atmosphere. It made the entire evening feel special, relaxed, and unmistakably Connecticut. A wonderful dining experience all around.

    Beautiful scenery, feels like a dream. The food and service was amazing. It was a bit loud due to a large party but I still enjoyed it all. Definitely recommend and will be back.
