Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown.     Absolutely loved this place! The food was flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Every dish tasted authentic, from the tender souvlaki to the creamy tzatziki and warm pita. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was cozy, lively, and perfect for enjoying a delicious meal with family or friends. If you're looking for amazing Greek food, I highly recommend this place. I'll definitely be coming back!

    The best Greek food I've had outside of Greece itself. I'd heard great things about this place, but I still wasn't prepared for just how incredible the food was when I actually sat down to eat. Easily an 11/10. Unfortunately, there was a hair in my calamari, but the staff handled it exceptionally well. They replaced the dish immediately and removed it from the bill without hesitation. To be honest, the food was so unbelievably good that I got over the incident pretty quickly. The portion sizes were generous, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. What really stood out was how seamlessly the team worked together, almost every member of the service staff assisted us at some point during the meal. It certainly didn't go unnoticed. They clearly take genuine pride in delivering a great dining experience. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived: it was lower than expected. For a Michelin-recommended restaurant, prices were comparable to mid-tier chain restaurants like Cactus Club or Earls, yet the quality of the food was on an entirely different level. Exceptional food, exceptional service, and exceptional value. I'll definitely be back.

    The food was fabulous! Our server Aiden was excellent with his friendliness and knowledge. The host was also very welcoming! Our second visit and we absolutely will return. Please bring back the original potatoes.
