★★★★★ Lunch at the Schlossschänke Schloss Johannisberg delivered exactly what you hope for when dining in the Rheingau: exceptional food, world-class Riesling, and a view that reminds you why this region is legendary. We started with excellent rustic bread accompanied by Bordier demi-sel butter and delicate prosciutto. The kitchen executes classic German dishes with precision—my companion enjoyed a perfectly prepared schnitzel topped with shaved black truffle and served alongside buttery potatoes. The dish struck the ideal balance between traditional comfort and refined execution. Another highlight was the beautifully composed fish course, presented with vibrant sauces and thoughtful plating that reflects the restaurant’s commitment to both flavor and visual presentation. Dessert was simple and elegant: house-made ice cream topped with fresh berries, the perfect finish after a leisurely lunch overlooking the vineyards and the Rhine valley. Of course, the star of the experience is the wine. We enjoyed a Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Kabinett Rotlack 2023, which showcased everything that makes Rheingau Riesling so compelling—bright acidity, delicate fruit, and remarkable balance. Service was warm, attentive, and professional without ever feeling rushed. Combined with the panoramic vineyard views and historic setting of Schloss Johannisberg, it creates a dining experience that feels both relaxed and special. If you are exploring the Rheingau, this is a must-stop for lunch.

Excellent food: creative precision, with delicious courses and generous pre-courses. Wine list not up-to-date (bottle selected was unavailable). Decor around broader hotel a little ‘tired’, and €130 for a small room isn’t really justified. Overall a great experience, however.
