Best French Restaurants in Vacaville

There are so few things you can count on these days, it's nice to know that even decades after opening, Bistro Jeanty remains on its game AND offers many of the classics that made me a fan nearly 30 years ago. Since this was a summertime visit, I reluctantly forwent the cozy country-French interior and opted for the side patio. Though the view isn't much, the vibe is great, even jovial, if not a tiny bit loud at times. We ordered the beet salad — a long plate of multicolor baby beets arrived on a soft bed of lightly dressed baby arugula dotted with feta. Perfection. Next was the Wagyu flat iron steak, accompanied by fries and béarnaise sauce. The temperature upon arrival made it clear the meat and potatoes got waylaid on their way to the table, but their flavors were on-point (we kept the meat--we were too hungry to wait--and got hot replacement fries quickly). Partnered with spicy aioli and more béarnaise (both at a fee), the fries are reason enough to come. I paired my meal with a Côte-du-Rhône and finished it with crème brûlée before taking a stroll around town and considering the soonest I can return for another fine meal at Jeanty.

Four of us greatly enjoyed our entrees and dessert. The waitress was very knowledgable, polite, charming, and attentive. The food selection offered numerous options. It was a bit loud.
