Best European Restaurants in Marghera

We spent two nights in Venice during our two week stay in Italy and inquired with our front desk staff at Hotel Ego Venezia on where would be a nice quiet, delicious place to eat that was not a typical, well, “Tourist Trap”. Well their recommendation was on point. Traverna San Lio was just the place we needed to end a beautiful stay on the Grand Canal in Venice. Showed up early for our reservation and the staff had no issue getting us a table. Our waiter was Julio, which we found out later was the Owner. We discussed the menu and he informed us of their specials. Well, that’s were it all began. We were going to start with the Tuna Tartare, and Julio asked if we were adventurous wanted to try the raw seafood platter. After some skepticism (on my part) the wife and I decided to give it a try. The platter was adorned either a raw Amberjack with fresh fig, Tuna Tartare, Caviar, two types of Venetian shrimp. Being from the US, we have never had raw shrimp. Well, all of it was delicious and fresh! The fish was so delicate and flavorful. For our main course we had the Truffle Risotto, cooked to order and it was dawned with some of the best truffle I have ever had. Each bite had such a wonderful flavor! We were going to order one of the main courses but felt just right and not overly full. Julio was also a sommelier and I wanted a local wine, he gave us 4 wonderful selections from a low-mid-high price point, we went with the Inama Cermenere, it was very well balanced and just perfecto with the risotto. We ended with the crème brûlée, rich and creamy with a beautiful crunchy torched sugar top. All in all, it was a great dinner to celebrate our last night in a beautiful city! Thank you Julio!

Excellent veal fillet and sauce with a sizeable portion of fresh foie gras which makes a very pleasant change

A hidden gem - truly amazing food and warm service.

While visiting Venice we wanted to try a more local and less “for tourist” place. Also, we didn’t want all the hassle to get from our hotel (near the Venice airport) to Venice (bus or taxi, boat ride and backwards, plus the waiting room time) Rossopomodoro was one of very few options that appeared in Opentable and we decided to give it a try. It’s “family restaurant” which we enjoy a lot. Good food, good ambience, quiet and specially, great service. For anyone who wants to try something a little bit less touristy, I would recommend give Rossopomodoro a try!
