Best Contemporary Indian Restaurants in Kew East

One awesome lunch at Tonka on Flinders Lane. Started with a chai espresso martini, which set the palate perfectly for what was to come. We kicked things off with freshly shucked oysters, fried prawns moilee betel leaf, and Karaikudi calamari. Every dish had its own character and was packed with flavour. For mains we had the tandoori chicken, confit duck makhani, char-grilled Brussels sprouts with green chilli jam, and the black garlic naan to mop up every last bit of sauce. Honestly, some of the best Indian food I've had in a long time. Every dish was beautifully balanced, rich in flavour, and cooked to perfection. What really made the experience even better was the team. The staff were genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive from the moment we walked in. Service like that makes a great meal even more memorable. Definitely one of Melbourne's standout dining experiences and I'll be back.

Small, intimate restaurant outside the downtown. Great food, each dish reflecting a different regional cuisine from India but done with some Australian ingredients. The kangaroo and goat are worth a try. A great night out if you want to try something a little different.
