   I took my wife here for her birthday tonight and was both of our first times. I have heard from multiple friends this place is amazing... and it was!!! Our soup, salad, and steaks were probably the best we've ever had!!! Our server Bobby made it that much better with his knowledge of the menu and answering our questions with great suggestions. Cheers to the chefs!!! Bobby delivered your phenomenal meals to us and we will be back for sure!!! Thank you Bobby, chefs, and the nice valet fellas as well!!!

   It was our first experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, quiet and romantic. Food was delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable. Will definitely be back. My husband enjoyed escargot as an appetizer and a fillet mignon with lobster tail and I enjoyed a ribeye. We both had asparagus and rosemary roasted potatoes. We shared a slice of Keylime pie for dessert. I cannot say anything bad about our experience.

   Very nice and quiet restaurant. Probably the best service I have ever received at an restaurant. Food was great lamb was tender and flavorful cauliflower au gratin was surprising good. The crab cake was excellent and the shrimp were fresh and clean. The only lackluster item was the Cesar salad, not that it was bad but just not up to par with the other items. Price is as to be expected in a restaurant like this. Will definitely be back.

    First negative review I’ve ever written. I’m actually quite unhappy with the the dinner experience last night. The main service was as if our table was an afterthought. We commented on it during the meal. But, the main issue for the negative comment is the following: The steaks averaged about $60 which I would expect. There was a special, off menu Strip that I selected which was good. When I got the bill I was shocked that it was priced at $160. I was more shocked that I was not told that. It totally ruined the night. No wonder she was running from the table when delivering her bill. She should’ve said something up front. I feel deceived. Not going back.

    Byrd and Baldwin is THE go-to place for white tablecloth fine dining in downtown Norfolk - hands down! It can get pricey if you go "all out", but you don't go to a place like this for a bargain. Given the outstanding service and food quality, their prices aren't out of line. [Much cheaper than the Jules Verne in the Eifel Tower - LOL!] Don't be afraid to ask for something special (in our case, Au Poivre sauce for a filet) - if they can accommodate, they will!! Certainly a place to consider for any special occasion.

    Dinner here is delightful, but what I feel you are really paying for is the impeccable service, and awesome ambiance. There is no doubt the steaks are of the highest quality, but when I'm paying these prices, I'm undoubtable expecting the best. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing without the pretentiousness of the uber fine dinning establishment. If your in Norfolk and want to treat yourself, this is absolutely the place to do it!     This restruant is all I expected. Amazing service and fantastic food. We go to Ruth Chris quite often and I will tell you the food is much better at Byrd and Baldwin. But it was more expensive than Ruth Chris. I would eat at Byrd and Baldwin every night if it wasn't so expensive. Food was delicious escargot was tender and in an exquisite butter and garlic sauce, steaks had a rich beef flavor and were cooked to perfection, and we split a big baked potato with "all the fixings" which was also baked to the perfect tenderness the drink choices were interesting and they were great. Cost more than Ruth's - however way better!

    This was my very first time to visit and I was totally impressed with the restaurant and the whole staff especially my wait staff Named Nicole. Everyone made me and my party feel so special. The Valet greeted us with a warm smile along with the Maitre D'. The drinks were too Quality. The food was Out Of This World!! Every morsel was out of sight!!! The Atmosphere made us feel as if we got to dine with Presidential Staff! This Place is Worth Every Dollar you spend...so I say go ahead and spoil yourself!     We did not get seated at the table requested, even though I made the reservation 6 wks in advance. The mac and cheese had zero flavor, and thankfully was taken back to the kitchen. I informed the server that I had 2 pieces that I bit into on my filet mignon that were “fatty”. I told him that my steak had too much “fat” on it for a filet mignon. He went on to explain the various cuts of meats on steaks. I listened to him patiently . I then explained that fillet mignon is the ONLY kind of steak that I eat, so I am only comparing it to the other filet mignon’s that I’ve eaten. Needless to say, I did not finish my steak. He never asked me if I would like something else in place of it. Or if I would like for them to recook it, or take it off of the bill. He did however ask me if I’d like to take it, or anything else, to go. Nothing was offered in place of the steak. Not even dessert! Our bill also came with a $20.50 “Meal Tax”. I think $214.50 is way too much, considering that we didn’t even get ANY alcohol OR dessert. Not to mention we paid $18 ($9 a piece) for bottled water (that wasn’t even left on the table). I sat there for nearly 10 minutes waiting on a refill for my bottled water that wasn’t even kept on our table. You pay $9 and then they conveniently keep the “opened” bottles of water on a table in the middle of the room. They refill when requested. We had to ask the host for a water refill. I think what bothered me the most out of all this, is that no one reached out to me after I personally handed my comment card to the host (there were 2 gentlemen at the podium when we left). I explained the situation, and left my name, email and phone number with a request to be contacted. That was Wednesday evening. It’s now Saturday afternoon. Maybe after this review they’ll finally contact me? I waited before writing this review, because I wanted to give them a chance to make it right. Hopefully they’ll respond soon. It’s unfortunate because we’ve been coming for 9+ yrs.

    Great ambience food a little bland and dated but service was great. Hot towel before the meal was a very good touch. Not sure what they put in the towel. But I definitely felt euphoric after cleaning my hands with it. All in all service 10 thanks to the hot towel food I give a 7.

    I took my fiancee here for his birthday and when I tell you the experience was just amazing. I highly would suggest making reservations during 5-7 pm....It's quiet and it will feel more like a private dining experience. Our server JB was extraordinary and he really does know his wines. Thank you so much for the 5-star experience and we will be back. Don't forget to order the New York Cheesecake. It was out of this world.!

    We have been to B&B several times, and we have always had well prepared food, but last night was an exception. Four of the five of us ordered the airline chicken, and all four of the dishes were too over-cooked to be edible. I guess it was an off night for the kitchen.

    While visiting Norfolk, my husband and I wanted to enjoy a beautiful night out and chose to spend our night at B&B. We arrived 20m early to have drinks at the bar, but was pleasantly surprised that our table was ready, so we were seated immediately. The ambiance was very nice, and intimate...perfect. The drinks were great. We ordered the crab cake appetizer and that was very good and delivered promptly. We also enjoyed the creme brulee and brought the key lime pie back to our hotel room - both delicious! My husband's meal, the Mahi Mahi special was well prepared and we loved the flavors and overall dish with potatoes and asparagus. My ribeye steak was prepared at the right temperature, but was largely flavorless and not at all tender...in fact quite tough requiring a bit of sawing with my steak knife to eat. The marbling was fine, but interestingly tough as well. My lobster tail arrived overdone, but the waiter corrected this and the new tail was succulent and amazing. Why 3 stars? B&B is a steakhouse and unfortunately their primary error (of several, average service, erratic delivery of water and bread, etc) was the STEAK. Given the restaurant and the triple digit price point, that to me is inexcusable. I've had much much better beef in Texas at lower price points and far more casual establishments with outstanding service! I will also say the dress code hype in other reviews and on their website did not seem to be a factor during our visit. Other guests were in jeans (not ripped), tennis shoes, collarless shirts... quite a mixed bag. It didn't detract from our experience, however. We were good company to each other and enjoyed the time we had together.

    Based on previous experience years ago, we went there to celebrate husbands birthday. The food was beyond disappointing. The soup du jour was not as described having a Thai flavor experience. It was more like french onion soup w/o the onions and bread/cheese top! The chicken was warm and dried out, the risotto was over cooked and mushy. It was replaced by garlic mashed potatoes that were tasteless and barely warm. I had the salmon, which although cooked perfectly, lacked seasoning and sat on a bed of spinach risotto that was also not prepared properly, but in this case it was hard and crunchy and not cooked enough. As a side I ordered the roasted corn with lobster. No flavor or seasoning, the lobster was so overcooked it was hard and chewy, and barely warm. The only highlight of the evening was the warm spinach salad which was absolute perfection from start to finish! Needless to say, most of the food was left on our plates and when asked if we wanted a box for the leftovers, we heartily declined. We filled out the survey and I personally handed it to the manager, who said I hope you will come back so we can improve on your next experience. We definitely will not be going back nor do we recommend it. Alot of money for terrible food.
