The service, cocktails and meal were terrific and dessert was to die for.
Food was ok. Really small portions left you unsatisfied.
Great service waitress
Ok service hostess
Great experience. Great service, not the usual nice service, but extra nice and unique. A little banter back and forth with our waitress made the experience extra special for our anniversary. Oh and the champagne at the end too. She was amazing, but sorry didn’t get her name!!
We just love Butter. The food and service are always fabulous and there is an easy glamour to it that is always exciting. We particularly love Altin though to be honest they are all outstanding!
Really beautiful experience. Every staff person is professional, warm, and helpful. No surprises that the food was AMAZING. We went for the brunch buffet - the price is more than fair. Can’t wait to go back when we’re in NYC again.
Awesome food wonderful atmosphere and the service was impeccable
My husband and I have been anxiously looking forward to our dinner at Butter. We are big fans of Chef Alex and Chopped! However, most of the experience was a huge disappointment.
Positively, we were seated promptly, and surprised that at 8 pm on a Saturday our reservation was unnecessary. Maybe that should have been telling. The cocktails we ordered were good and our original waiter was great. However, he came to tell us he was leaving (odd). Our new waitress had too many tables and services declined from then on.
We were so sad to see how poor our meals were in comparison to prices reflected on our bill. We ordered the bruschetta which was on special, and lacked really any seasoning. My husband ordered the short ribs which came in an overly thick BBQ sauce and were still rather fatty. I was most disappointed to order the $49 strip steak and have it be so bad. It was extremely fatty and very tough. Really the only saving moment of the evening were the beignets we got for dessert that were excellent.
I would say the restaurant is definitely not worth the stop given the other great options in Manhattan.
Best meal we have ever had and we are foodies
We took our 16 year old daughter to Butter because of her love of gossip girl. we were treated like garbage because we were only eating dessert to celebrate 16 with a few of her friends. the waiter even took their candle off our table..
Just incredible flavors! Don’t miss an opportunity to experience this food!
The food was subpar. We were very unhappy with our waitress. Everything about Butter was better when it was in the village. Don't think we'll be coming here again.
The food was not good.
The food was good but there was nothing else special about it. Prices are high. Without alcohol or dessert over 90 pp
Food was outstanding. Noise level was moderately high. Party at bar was very noisy. Waite staff was just alright. I have to say again the food , the food , the food, salad amazing, duck the best I ever had and desert glorious. I would go back in a heart beat!!!
Rachel’s excellent service!!
Great location, live to come back.
Thanks receptionist ‘Dabiella’
Restaurant Week menu but the portions so small and inferior that it didn’t feel like we got a good deal.
It was restaurant week so we took waiters suggestions which worked out! Burger was one of the best I’ve had. However once the waiter took our order he was busy and invisible most of the time. We were seeing a show and with a 12:15 reservation-we just made it! Otherwise it was lovely.
This was the worst steak I have ever had. Both me and my friend ordered the strip steaks, and both of them were EXCESSIVELY fatty. 30-40% of my steak was just white fat that had to be cut off. Our waitress also excessively up-sold us, and recommended we get extra apps and sides because portions were small, but when the food arrived they were pretty big portions and we had too much food.
I was visiting New York with my mother and one of her requests was Butter, as she wanted to eat at a restaurant of a celebrity chef and Alex Guarnaschelli is a favorite. Everything about the experience was excellent and it was one of our favorite parts of the trip.
I went for lunch in August 2019 with a group of six. The environment was nice. The food was disappointing. I would return and try it for dinner.
Outstanding food and excellent service in a cool restaurant.
Went here because it was featured on my daughter's favorite show. I had a great steak and she loved her meal. Very nice decor/look.
Meeting with old friend
Great food and the service was spectacular. We had the short ribs and the branzino and while the portions were not massive they were just large enough to be filling.
Food was amazing; Service wasn’t supreme. Risa was knowledge and kind.
The menu is pricey, however the food was excellent, so I will not complain. The portions were good and the service was awesome as well. My party ordered three different items and they all was delicious. Highly recommend.
Totally overrated, expected more from an iron chef
Butter was better than I expected. I had very high hopes for this restaurant and they crushed it. My whole party is still talking about the food. Next time I am in New York I’ll be making another reservation. Fabulous
Great food in midtown near theatre district. Had great corn chowder with shrimp and eggplant, delicious. Good choice for restaurant week.
Wonderful meal and great service. My wife had the gnocchi and says it’s the best ever (and she has had a LOT of gnocchi). I had the pasta special and it was equally delicious. Expertly prepared and solid wait staff. Will
come again when in NYC.

Review August 8, 2019
Every year when the family goes to NYC, I have one restaurant from a Top Chef or Culinarily Icon I like to visit.
This year we went to Butter by Alex Guarnaschelli.
When I say our dinner was a disappointment; it’s an understatement.
I had made a reservation so that we would be able to get a table.
From the first moment, the Hostesses were more interested in talking to one another than greeting me and my family.
I felt we were an inconvenience to them rather than a customer.
The only good part of the evening was our waiter. He was warm, energetic and made us feel welcome. He told us the specials for the evening and took our drink order.
Since it was restaurant week I chose the tasting menu which had an appetizer, entrée and dessert. My wife and son chose from the main menu.
For appetizers we chose gnocchi mac & cheese and the pork ribs. My wife chose a side salad.
The first two appetizers were good. But the salad was just radicchio lettuce. Nothing else. Now I know a salad is not supposed to be exciting but I figured they could added some green lettuce or some tomatoes.
The entree’s were Red Snapper and NY Strip Steak. We’ve had better.
The dessert was a Million Dollar Short Bread.
Again more like a buck fifty rather than a million.
So over all the entire experience other than the waiter was a very disappointing experience.
Don’t waste your time or money at this restaurant.
Alex Guarnaschelli, your restaurant Butter, has been CHOPPED!!!
BUTTER COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER! We chose Butter's Restaurant Week menu to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and a Birthday-and it did not disappoint! The food was simply spectacular, each course surpassing the previous. We were surprised by a birthday candle on our dessert, accompanied by 2 glasses of sparkling wine. Our server, Rachel, was attentive and charming. A perfect evening, with special memories!
Service was a bit slow but overall very good experience and excellent value.
Service was great. Food came quickly and waitress was super friendly
The food leaves a lot to be desired. Even the pasta courses seemed off. I would not recommend.
Took 3 relatives from out of town here. Was very good; strip steak, while delicious, was a little tough comparatively to many other strips. Raspberry beignets are the one thing you need to get. Outrageously good. Server was friendly and not pushy at all, but we did have to ask for steak knives and drink refills. Nothing at all to cry about, but why I didn’t go five stars. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to others, and thanks to Freddy and staff for a great experience.
We loved the ambiance, the food and the service at the table. The salmon, the gnocchi mac & cheese and the beignets are a MUST. The only thing that was unpleasant during our time at BUTTER was our interaction with the host. We were running late from our matinee for our reservation and arrived 15 minutes late. We called to let the host know. When we arrived she said in short tone “we need the table for another party at 8 o’clock.”
My husband and I went to Butter for an early pre-show dinner. Our server was fabulous - positive personality and great recommendations. I ordered the cauliflower main entree and it was very tasty and unique. Would go back and order this again. My husband went with roasted chicken, which was seasoned and cooked perfectly. For dessert I had a cappuccino that could rival the ones I sipped in Italy and we ate the amazing raspberry filled beignets. Wonderful meal.
We took advantage of NYC Restaurant Week, as my previous experience was Sunday brunch. On both visits the staff were wonderful and very attentive, but I was disappointed with the food. Overall we felt it was of good quality but nothing impressive or special. Even on Restaurant Week prices it was quite overpriced for a portobello mushroom and a burger. My expectations are always very high because Alex Guarnaschelli is amazing and I love to support her because she supports my favorite organization, ALSF. But twice now my expectations have not been met, and I come away thinking, I could have gone to a diner and felt just as satisfied.
