After a renovation of the Fells Point General Store in 1997, The Black Olive sits in quaint elegance on the cobblestone section of Bond Street in old Fells Point, Baltimore's waterfront Jewel. Though the restaurant itself is just over twenty five years old, the spirit from which it springs holds a story that stretches through multiple generations The Black Olive is a Greek fish tavern set in the historic Baltimore neighborhood of Fells Point. We specialize in Mediterranean seafood such a whole fish, traditional Greek dishes, house-made breads and desserts. This is my third time coming to Black Olive. Unfortunately, my wife and I were placed in a room on the back, in front of the noise of the kitchen. The room is very simple, not even close to the charming large rooms around the bar. If you book a reservation , request NOT to be placed in that hidden room. The room would only be adequate for having kids. In fact there was a family with kids, but it is surprising that around the table of the family the tables were for just two people so it is a bad mix. We wanted to pay for the ambiance of the historic room, not for the noisy room that is less charming that my kitchen. Regarding the food, Black Olive is certainly not a place to have drinks: cocktails are way off. The greek coffee it is served with lots, lots of sugar without advising the client. Salad was only OK, fish dishes were good as usual.

We loved everything about this restaurant. The ambiance is so pretty, the service was excellent, and the food could not have been more delicious. We had the grilled octopus and stuffed calamari for appetizers, they were both out of this world. The fish and lamb chops were also amazing. It’s pricey but worth every dollar, would definitely return when in the area.

My wife and I celebrated our Valentine's Day dinner and it was great! My wife had the grilled shrimp appetizer and the Chilean Sea Bass main course and both were delicious. I had the octopus appetizer and the Lamb Shank for my main course. Again, both delicious and the lamb shank was a huge portion with an amazing red wine sauce. The best part of our night, however, was our waiter, Rafael! he was amazing in every way and so friendly and helpful with recommendations. He was so attentive and truly cared about our experience. Overall, a great meal and nice night out!

We went on Valantine's Day. I was expecting it to be really busy, but we were shown to our seats right away. Jeff was our waiter again He was awesome. We had the scallop appetizer which was amazing (I wish there were more than two). The lobster and squid ink tarragon pasta was delicious as usual. The lamb chops were grilled to perfection. I didn't care for the sweet mashed potatoes. I was too full for dessert so I passed on that, but the night was excellent thanks to the great meal .

My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. The service was excellent the food was good. I didn't see where I could order extra sides on the menu. But, I could be wrong. I highly recommend Black Olive to anyone looking for a fine dining experience with a unique upscale menu. I will definitely return to try something different.

Our total experience was 5 star, except our waiter kept disappearing. He was a very nice older gentleman, just didn’t see him much which led to empty drinks and plates piling up. We’d definitely go back and hopefully we don’t get him and if so maybe he’d be having a better day.

The food was excellent, well cooked and great flavor. However the drinks and service were sub par. Both mixed drinks (one from menu - Manhattan and one variation to menu) were so bad, we sent them back and got beer and wine instead. Not sure the bartender knew how to make them. The service was a little slow, had to keep flagging down waiter to make sure order was put in.

The Black Olive was lovely. The food was delicious and flavorful. I can't give 5 stars however, because although we had reservations we were made to wait about 23 minutes to be seated even though there were a couple of tables available. Apparently those tables could accommodate 3-4 people so they didn't want to sit my party of 2 there. After waiting 23 minutes we were seated at one of those 3-4 people tables anyway. We received bread, olives and water, and after about 15 minutes of being seated another hostess or waitress (not sure which) asked if we would mind moving to a smaller table. I found this to be in poor taste. Our server Lisa was great though and we still had a nice time, and would like to dine with them again.

Located on a nice block. It was date night, my SO & me. Baltimore Restaurant week. We both ordered fish entrees and got different appetizers and desserts. The entrees (bronzino & rock fish) were both tasty; so were the apps. Only Con: couple of times we had to flag down our server, but again restaurant week. Anyway, overall a good night. I would recommend.

I've been to the Black Olive many times over the years and each time they find new ways to delight and surprise me. The Dover Sole is what you should come here for, full stop. It is quite simply the most succulent fish you will ever eat. It is otherworldly. Everything in this restaurant is thoughtfully crafted, even the table bread is grilled and seasoned perfectly. Enjoy your fresh fish or rack of lamb with a glass of assyrtiko. Rafael, our server, was professional and personable, readily willing to offer recommendations, which were spot on. For dessert, the baklava ice cream is always a hit -- you'll make room for it no matter how substantial your meal. Finally, if you're not driving, the ouzo on the rocks is a superb apperitif. I cannot recommend Black Olive enough. Whether it's an impulsive Tuesday night date or a special occasion, this restaurant will leave you overjoyed. Black Olive holds a special place in my heart. So many great memories were made here.

The Black Olive is truly my favorite restaurant in the United States!! The fresh food is perfectly prepared and delicious! The service as expertly conducted by Jeff Wallace and Raphael, is exquisite. The atmosphere is intimate, cozy and one can imagine that they are in Greece. The owner, Dimitri, has continued the legacy from his parents who originated The Black Olive and he has now made his own superb mark on it.

We went to The Black Olive for New Years Eve. The menu was prix fixe at $120 before taxes and service. I must say that this was one of the best meals I’ve had, and service was divert on a busy night. From the amuse bouche through my elegant, yet simply prepared Dover sole. Every course was elevated with careful attention from the kitchen. We dine at The Black Olive from time to time. We have always been very pleased with our meals. Their bronzino is always excellent!

It’s not often that you write a review of a restaurant and within days you receive a follow-up email from the maître d’. I never expected to hear back but I did and kudos to the Black Olive for their superior staff and extraordinary customer service. We visited the Black Olive on New Year’s Eve, and had a prefixed menu. My review mentioned that the food, as always, was outstanding, though the service felt rushed. The maître d’, Liddy, contacted me by email and apologized for the rushed experience. She invited us back to give it another try. I was taken aback by the incredible customer service, and the overall kindness of Liddy and her email. We returned to the restaurant on Saturday evening and from start to finish, it was an outstanding experience. The Black Olive has always been one of our favorite restaurants simply because the food is truly outstanding. However, the customer service is second to none. Thank you to Liddy, Jeff, our server, and the owner, Dimitris. Thank you for the opportunity to return and for an amazing evening.

Always delicious food; however, since Covid now has tables spaced apart and is more pleasant to eat. Previously, tables were packed to tight together. The lamb chops were as good as any I have ever had.

Every dinner I have had at Black Olive has been fantastic. There are so many delicious Mezzethes that selecting just a couple is always a challenge. I love to visit with a large group that is comfortable passing plates. The Chefs in the kitchen are true masters of cooking fish and seafood on their Grill, great grill flavor but never overcooked!

First time back in 10 years. The food, as ever, is just outstanding. Best Daurade Royale I have eaten outside Europe. Plates full of creative flavor combinations. Service was a problem a few years ago. It was just very slow. Huge improvement here with food arriving in good time and the meal very well orchestrated. The interior decor is the same as years ago and could use a makeover at this point. The room felt a bit tired. But The Black Olive remains one of Baltimore's best. Very much recommended.

The scallops were perfectly grilled and seasoned. I was mad there were only 3. The lobster pasta was amazing. The service was great. We can’t wait to go back!

Amazing meal for a special date night. Lobster pasta, rockfish and the dip sampler were all phenomenal. We will definitely be back!
