Benihana - New York
Not as good as other Benihana locations. Chef did not use much seasoning and food was bland. Not my best Benihana experience.
Just overall under staffing . Food not very good.
I just wouldn't go back
Chef was okay but not overly engaging or did all the tricks ... did not give us a great overall experience
I’ve been here a handful of times. Food is decent. Today I went back for the first time in about a year. The service was abominable! We were there for over 2 hours because our waiter was so inept. Everything took forever and he screwed up our order along with a lot of others we saw. I will probably not be returning.
Frequently go to Benihana. Food is always good. On this particular night the service was off. I’ll definitely go back, this was an exception.
We dind’t understand the system of the restaurant because leftover too much food and isn’t was served . The chef pack and take along to the kitchen. We ate Little quantity and not pleased. Unfortunately we don’t have a good experience
Having been to several Benihanas in London and Toronto I was hoping for a similar experience but the restaurant ambiance was not good, didn’t feel clean, the servers in the downstairs bar were obviously inexperienced. I appreciate that the chefs do their “show” several times a day and for them it’s a job but for customers it’s once a day and want the performance... overall not up to standard.
A great place to take kids and to celebrate special events. I went on my birthday.
An amazing experience!!! First we were running a little bit late for our reservation. I called and they said no problem, we will take care of you when you arrive. When we did arrive they got us seated right away. It was my wife and I and we were seated at a table with a family of 7. They took our order and then the food began coming. First some soup and salad. Both very tasty. Then the chef came out and the show began. He was very entertaining. There was a couple at our table with a young child and he made sure to pay attention to the child with some of his acts, which I really thought was cool. Once we started receiving the food he was cook, I was blown away. Everything tasted amazing. Seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly, everything he put on my plate was better then the last thing he put on my plate. The whole experience lasted maybe an hour. It was loud, but this is an atmosphere that it’s ok to be loud. My only caveat from this experience and I understand why it’s like that, the seating is really tight. They want to fit in as many people as they can to maximize profit, so I get it. I would still recommend this place to anyone.
The place used to be nice and fun, now they just want you in and out as quick as they can.
This was our first time to Benihana. We loved it. The only inconvenience was that it was my boyfriend’s birthday dinner and we were put in like a private room thing with a bunch of kids so we couldn’t really enjoy our conversations at dinner but it was still a fun experience although not as romantic as I wanted it to be but the food was delicious!
It was a birthday
They make you feel special for your birthday
Unfortunately I came on the day the Individual in the Oval Office son decided to have dinner there and me and friend waited an half hour to be seated. Which in turn my guess had to eat fast and rush out. So I was very disappointed. I’ve been coming to Benihana for more than 16 years. It was my birthday celebration so it wasn’t as I planned.
I always love coming here this is my favorite restaurant to come and celebrate all my occasions
No place mixes, fun, food and entertainment like Benihana does. Accept no substitutes!
Made reservations and mentioned it was my daughter's birthday. Upon getting seated in the main dining area, and after sitting there for a few minutes, hostess came and asked us to move to another table, which we did. However, the other table was in a cramped room and it was very strange. As other people came in, we had a party of 3 sit next to us, then another party of 2 sit across from us. The hostess tried to squeeze another party of 2, but they complained and were taken to another table. 9 people at one table would have been WAY too crowded. Anyway, I told the hostess it was my daughter's birthday. She said she'd tell our server. When we got moved to another table, I went and told the hostess to be sure to tell our "new" server, since we were moved to another table, that it was my daughter's birthday. The hostess said she already did. WELL, you can guess the rest of the story, NOBODY ever acknowledged it was my daughter's birthday, no song, no desert, and most importantly, NO PICTURE. You see, we have been celebrating birthdays at Bennihanas for over 25 years, and I have pictures of my daughter's birthdays year after year. However, we've always lived in the bay area and all pictures have been at the Bennihanas in Burlingame, CA. Since my daughter relocated to NY for a job, we thought it would have been nice to continue the tradition and get a Bennihana NY birthday picture. She was too shy for me to say anything once dinner was over and we were presented with the check. Sorry Bennihana, you were a HUGE dissappoitment.
Nirmal was our chef and he was great! Very interactive and a lot of fun!
You are here for the entertainment and not the food, though the food was okay. I think most every table was families with kids. It's an entertaining meal.
We arrived early for our reservation and were asked to wait. After a while we inquired on when we would be seated, and the hostess said we would be seated next. Then we watched large tour groups walk in and get seated Prior to us. When we inquired again we were told that the were seated first because they are a group!
Then when we asked the receptionist if we would be seated soon, she had to speak to her manager to get an answer. At that point after waiting 25 minutes we left.
The consistent theme in our interaction with them was that they gave us lip service rather than giving us real answers or providing any reasonable customer service.
STAY AWAY! They do not care about their customers!
Horrible customer service from manager. Tried to overbill us never apologized. Sloppy staff! Worst in the countryside.
Hiroaki Aoki would have been embarrassed.
My son’s birthday
the waiter we had was horrible he was rushing us to order our food and taking our plates away when we weren't done and took my little nephew cup out of his hand while he was still drinking i will never go there again i would rather drive to long island
Typical hibachi restaurant where you will share your cooking table with other people if you are not a group of 10. We had a good cooking show, food was fine, overall experience was ok. You can feel the pressure to eat and go though, we were not offer ice cream and tea that were included in our menus, we had to ask for it. We stayed a bit longer at the table after diner, and the other people sharing it with us left... and 5 minutes later we were asked to leave as well...
It seems to be a new restaurant, very clean. Tables are a bit too close, I had to move away from my seat three times to allow for the cook and its rolling table to get to his spot...
For four people, we paid USD $185 including tip with no alcoholic beverages. Difficult to have a conversation as you are sitting in a row.
Still nice experience, but not the best.
Buena comida.... lugar no muy limpio
Was good. Just an extremely loud table next to ours. Couldn’t talk with how loud it was
We were seated at one of the two tables on the street level where the ventilation noise very loud.
Waiter removed my salad bowl while I was still eating and had salad left.
Waiter did not bring the green tea which is customary at Benihana's.
Brought check instead before I asked for it, as if saying it's time to go.
The other patrons were there before us and we're still there when we left.
The ambiance on the street level is greatly lacking.
I’ve always loved Benihana and for 2 of my friends, this was their first time. Everyone had smiles from the moment we got our drinks (in the souvenir mugs) until we finished dessert. Super fun evening and delicious food. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Kindof disappointed having an Indian chef cooking for us .... in a Japanese restaurant.
For the rest, all good.
We ended up with an overall bill of 400 for 4.
Always good and this time especially so. Recently renovated which added to the experience. As consistent as ever and always fun.
Our chef Roy was outstanding!
The staff seemed to be in a rush to leave and get us out of there.
I was disappointed in the restaurant as a whole, found our waiter a little curt, no ambience, looked like a casino hall, noise level was high. We were there to celebrate a Birthday and it was known to them in the reservation and nothing extra was done.
They even forgot to bring our dessert as we paid for the 6 course meal and they didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert or offer dessert menu. They were certainly acting like they were waiting to go home.
It’s too bad this happened, I travel all over the world and come to New York at least once or twice a month and love to tell my friends and colleagues where I’ve eaten dinner.
I have eaten in this restaurant many times and had a pleasant experience, but unfortunately I didn’t on my last visit. I brought a friend and the two of us were sat together along with two other groups at a table. Initially we were greeted by the waiter, but as soon as he had our food order it was as if he forgot about us. He continued to interact with the other groups at the table, he asked them for drink orders and as soon as he got theirs he turned and walked away, not even asking us if we’d like a drink. Later when the food was cooked he asked around to see if they needed anything else, but yet again left us out. I was quite disappointed given that I’d brought my friend and told her how great of an experience it was, and although the food was excellent as usual, the fact that our waiter basically sectioned us off from the rest of the group and didn’t once check up on us was very disappointing.
I went to celebrate my brother's birthday and they said they couldn't scan the certificate from his phone (like they've done in the past). He ended up walking 5 blocks to the FedEx/Kinko's to print and 5 blocks back. Unacceptable.
Great although lobster over cooked:( n no birthday cakes to celebrate for me;)
