What Insiders Are Saying
The incredible People Watching available at Balthazar makes scrunching into a tiny table and overpaying for brunch totally worth it. Say whatever you want about this place, you can’t take away the fact that the kitchen gets it done.
It is a great place for a drinks but the food was not in line with our expectations. Stressed service and not really a great evening for Balthazar I’m afraid.
Terrible service. Food was fine but nothing to talk about sadly. Upset stomach after lunch. Noise level annoying.
It was a great experience! Amazing and fast service!! Food was delicious.
Apart from the attentive and friendly wait staff, the rest of the meal was a huge disappointment. Overpriced and overhyped. Food was subpar for the price.
For breakfast - it was pretty terrible. Super basic and could get better eggs really anywhere else. Not work the fancy price of $20 per plate. Staff was wonderful.
Excellent, as always!
Great as always.
The food is very good and the fresh flowers lovely....but the noise level is TOO much! Plus the tables are too close together. I was elbow to elbow with the guy at the next table.
Not cheap but excellent bistro style food of generous portions. Good bread.
It was fabulous!!!
Always amazing food and service. They were above and went beyond because we had to extend the table for 2 to 4 and they happily moved us to a booth- I was beyond grateful. Balthazar always is wonderful.
Delish food, amaze atmosphere, server seemed disinterested but overall AMAZE experience ;)
Still my favorit place in New York, try to celebrate my birthday there every year!
I really liked our server tonight. She was helpful and provided enough service without hovering. Food was great.
Waited a month for a reservation. Service was terrible. They barely refilled our waters let alone asked for cocktail refills. It was a special occasion and honestly not at all worth it. The steak frites were just eh. I’m from Atlanta and overall our customer service and food quality is amazing at a restaurant level like this. It seems that there are so many choices in nyc that no one has to raise the bar.
Been awhile since we've been to Balthazar, took friends who never have, and it was a very pleasant evening. Still serve the best bread in town. My steak tartare was terrific as was my pork chop.
I have been going to Balthazar for over 17 years and I have always ADORED the place. It has outgrown its allure at this time. The dishes are ridiculously overpriced and the ambience is just ok.
Don’t forget your roots as a NY Brasserie, Balthazar!
Cool it with your overpriced dishes (French onion soup at over $15..come ON!) and get back to what we all love you for.. the feeling like we are at a Parisian Brasserie that is fun and reasonable.
A forever favorite. Fantastic food outweighs constant crush and hectic service.
Delicious! Everything was fantastic. They were busy but managed to pull off timely service, I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere
I was there for my Birthday celebration. I've been celebrating since it first opened 20+ years ago. Service by Megan was excellent. It was an evening I will never forget. Thank you Balthazar Team!
great service! Everything was perfect. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu which was very helpful for us, since we had many questions about the different dishes.
Everything was cooked to perfection.
Hoppin’ place! Servers were out of this world! It was a bit loud but that made us feel a part of the place. Food was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.
A favorite, especially for lunch or brunch. Wonderful place, outstanding service. fit for foodies as well as families. thank you for bringing Paris to NYC!
Service was great... food was good
Me and my husband enjoyed our meal
But nothing spectacular
It’s an iconic place. The food is ok but overpriced. Service was great.
GREAT night at BALTHAZAR - service, food, ambiance - 100+++
Didn’t meet expectations based on prior visits while visiting NYC. Service too hurried and robotic.
This is literally one of my favorite restaurants in the world, love this place!
Great place - loved the food and the wine recommendations. Will definitely go back.
Extremely loud and chaotic
We always liked to have lunch or dinner at Balthazar but this time the food was disappointing. The bouillabaisse was just a mash of overcrowd vegetables and fish in which nothing could be clearly identified. The croutons were useless because the ‘soup’ had no liquid to soak them in.
Sad, the bouillabaisse used to be so good.
That Balthazar is a GREAT French Bistro/Brasserie in SOHO NYC for any occasion, and any season. The service is very friendly and kind. The food is superb! Balthazar is the kind of place where you ALWAYS come back. This restaurant has always an important place in my heart and in the city’s dining history. Well done👍🙏
So disappointed with our experience. Came to New York for my 40th birthday from Belfast and had a poor experience. I had been before and recommended to my family who were with me and they were disappointed. Food came cold and uncooked. Waitress uninterested when we nicely complained. Then we were charged extra for the hot food which was resent. Paid it anyway as couldn’t wait to leave.
Excellent and first time there for breakfast.
Excelent, very good place.
restaurant was not a participant in NYC restaurant week. Food was scarce and bland.
The food was great, and we had great service. I especially enjoyed the duck confit. The one thing I didn't like was that servers constantly asked us if we were done with our dishes and interrupted our conversation (we're slow eaters). Other than that the experience was great.
Ufffff uffff ufffff
