Ale House - Grand Junction

Contemporary American
The Ale House, in Grand Junction, is a local favorite for delicious modern American fare enhanced with global influence served in its lively and rustic restaurant. The creamy artichoke dip served with veggies and toasted baguette and the sausage and cheese board served with preserves and mustard make tasty and sharable starters. Some of The Ale House's specialty entrées include the achiote-marinated shrimp tacos with pico de gallo and lime crema, the elf meatloaf in an apple demi-glace and the Applewood bacon mac and cheese with garlic panko crust, all of which are superb with a craft beer or two. Handhelds, like the hand-tossed avalanche ale pizza topped with chicken, ale alfredo sauce, pesto, garlic and goat cheese and the shaved steak dip sandwich with smoked mozzarella and rosemary jus, are also popular. For a sweet end to your meal, enjoy The Ale House's cast iron apple crumble.

We were on the road and I'd used Open Table to reserve a lunch as we drove across Colorado on the way to California. My wife's sandwich was the best she has had since Scholtzky's closed. We dined outside, and there was a little traffic noise, but the weather was perfect.

I've seen a number of strong reviews for the Ale House, they were so good I tried it last Friday night. I was disappointed, largely in our service was very slow and unattentive, and two orders of the highly touted Mahi Mahi tacos arrived heavily dried out, obviously left under heat lamps too long. The restaurant wasn't that busy, lots of open tables, yet our service was extremely lacking.

We had a group of eight...sat outdoors on a beautiful evening...everyone commented on how good the food was. My mahi mahi tacos were excellent as was my margarita. Our waiter was there when we needed him but not overbearing. The Ale House never disappoints!

I wish the menu would not change so much (and so frequently). The 50-50 burger was a family favorite. I asked the waitress about it and she told me about the scallop special. ????

We went for Valentines Brunch due to a friends recommendation. We ordered the eggs over medium and they were barely cooked. The biscuit came without butter, when we asked for butter it came out hard and the biscuit was cold so that was left uneaten. The friend who recommended the brunch especially the chicken fried steak said he went again and the food was not as good as he had had previously.

We booked this reservation as a mid-way point from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas. We were seated and waited 25 minutes and finally we got up and ask for menus. The Wait staff was standing around chatting. We got up and left. It was very disappointing to not have anyone ask for our order. We had to ask for menus and everything and this restaurant had decent ratings.

I had a decent burger, and my friend had the elk meatloaf. It was so smothered in gravy that it was hard to discern the taste. Rather noisy place no matter where you sit. For an early time on a Saturday night which meant lots of open tables, service was extremely slow. I'll skip it next time I'm in town.

I make this a regular stop whenever I'm in Grand Junction, which is not all that often. I'm always satisfied. The service is good. The food is good. The beers are good. This time I had an elk burger which was cooked perfectly. The beer recommendations from the server were excellent. I'll keep coming back.

This restaurant is clean and wait staff are very friendly. Was given an exstensive beer list with everything on tap. Some people in my group ordered their Avalanche beer, which they said was phenomenal. The food menu has fun selections like elk or buffalo burger and an elk meatloaf. Some fun twists on classic meals. Everything we ordered tasted great. Their Mac and cheese is amazing, their burrito is also great. I personally ordered the elk burger which was very flavorful and had a great sauce on it. Overall, a good place to go for some good burgers and beer.

The Ale House is the perfect place to have a fun classy date or night out with friends. The atmosphere was sophisticated and energizing. The service was good, they were very helpful and relaxed. Our waitress was courteous with checking up on us and was definitely not overbearing with it. The food was AMAZING. I had the cranberry and apple glazed salmon, which came with seasonal veggies and a mashed or whole baked potato; it was super moist and cooked to perfection. Also, there was a live band performing the night we were there, they were very fun, professional and classy. The bar had a couple of sports games playing on different screens which were not distracting for the other people in the restaurant who were just enjoying their meal and drinks. The Ale House is a gem worth visiting.

My wife had the special of the day which was a shrimp fettuccine. It was very, very good. I had the fish and chips, disappointing to say the least. The fish was on the verge of charred. The first piece was passable but the second was greasy and I had to pick the fish out. The fries were greasy and tasted like they had been sitting and then reheated. We had the Thai chicken skewers which were great and the Carmel pie which is rich and delicious.

50 minutes before our appetizer arrived and with no bread served it was a long 50 mins with kids, server forgot to put in specifics on our order so when the food eventually came it wasn't correct, we weren't given the option to sit outside when we were seated but noticed a beautiful outdoor dining area when we were leaving, drinks were not refilled, food was ok but obvious that corners are cut when it comes to quality ( thai chicken skewers were like mcnuggets in sauce). Could be a neat place due to a nice ambiance and sports playing on TVs if service was improved.

We split the Sherry Spinach Salad and 50/50 Burger. Both meals were fresh and tasty with a nice presentation, much better than your average bar food hence the four stars. Our server was prompt and on top of things. The place was a little dirty, prime example is that as we sat down the bench seats still had crumbs from the last customer. Overall a pleasant surprise after a day hiking around and really ranks between good and very good but I rounded up.

The Ale House carries several of Colorado's microbrews on tap. Ironically they were out of the Brew I chose. I was able to find a good substitute. Also I prefer bison over beef in my burger but they were out of that as well. My salad was fresh and green. Next time we are in grand junction we will be going back. The Ale House beats all of those chain restaurants hand down.

Great food with good service. Would have been five stars but the bet coolers inside are way to warm. Been a problem for a while. Summer time not a problem as they I've bottled beer outside. If you want micro brews you are still stuck with bad cooling. Food is good. Service is good beer is warm. Great atmosphere.

My husband could not stop talking about how much he enjoyed our dinner at the Ale House. We were visiting from out of town and chose this restaurant based on its online menu. I wanted a lot of choices. And boy did I get it. My husband ordered the Fish and Chips and they were fantastic. Fish was battered just right and cooked to a flaky inside and crunchy outside. My chicken pot pie and spinach/pecan salad were both excellent. I kept thinking at each bite "Boy, this is good!". Our waiter was excellent, making suggestions when asked and checking in on us despite a large party in his section that took up much of his attention. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

We have been to The Ale House many times, often with a less than adequate experience usually tied to poor management of service. This time however we arrived early, i.e. 5:30 and beat the crowd. We enjoyed good service and good food before going to the Rockestra concert @ CMU. As we finished our meal, a 24-top business function showed up which our server manned solo. It didn't affect us, but so sad for the other 2-tops he was serving. Here is were my question of management comes in. Just the same we'll be back, especially when their great patio is open again in the spring!
